Just thought I'd throw in here . My Hurst vibrated terrible in 5th gear on the Interstate at 75 plus mph . I checked the forum out and used the plastic tool dip on the the bottom of the chrome shifter arm and where the arm attaches to the shifter base . Three coats on the chrome arm and one where it attaches to the base with the two nuts and bolts . Worked like a charm . Chopperman's idea was right on ! ( I used the bushings that came with the shifter and they've worked fine )

I have the billet shifter and it rattled during acceleration, sounded like the shiftknob was going to fall off. I read somewhere that the problem a lot of times was some vertically play of the bearing sleeve between the base and the black plate that holds the sleeve in. Basically trying to put some rubber on the top and bottom of the bearing sleeve I laid a fat bead of blue rtv gasket maker along the ledge of the shifter base where the bearing sleeve fits down in the base and a fat bead on the bottom of the black plate just along the inside of the hole that fits over the shifter. I let it dry about an hour before I dropped the sleeve down into the base and then bolted the plate back on. This has effectively removed all the vibration in the shifter that I was experiencing. I added a little lithium grease to the top of the bearing once I was done bolting everything up and as far as I can tell it shifts fine and the noise is gone. It was driving me nutz. Just remember to let the gasket maker dry before putting the shifter back together.
