Default Cabin Filter Replacement

Is there a trick to removing the plastic pins that are used to hold down the piece that covers the cabin filter? Naturally, the Ford site says to take the car to the dealers. Any Suggestions?

Works best if you have a fork tool to pry them up. If you happen to break one, you can find them at Lowes or Home Depot.

Thanks,
I was going to use a thumb tack remover to lift them up, then pry them out.
