nothing they just flow better than stock some may dissagree but thats it no filter flows better than filtered more air more fuel more hp ever see a filter on a top fuel dragster but there good for street cars and dirt trackers to keep the dirt out. lol
Ive never replaced the air filter in my 08 stang, only 4600 miles so far. They say K&N is cleaned every 50K miles and has a 1M mile warranty.. 1,000,000 miles? damm thats a lot! :-) Guess I'm just lookin for a reason to buy this thing. Would I save $ and not have to buy new regular air filters? Ever? i see southernmustangparts.com has it for $39.95.

Reason: comment
K&N are good quality if nothing else...Mustang 5.0 mag showed 3hp just from the filter and 15 from the K&N CAI.
Neither is amazing change but will get you a few more MPG also.

I've been using K&N for about 8 years and they're a good investment. I usually clean mine every 20 to 30 thousand miles. I got a 2 MPG gain on my wife's car and a 1 MPG gain on my mustang.
Hey shooter did you notice a change in the sound of the engine? I went ahead and bought one today from autozone. reg price was 46.99 on sale for 41.99. If I get a couple mpg better I'll be happy. Havent had a chance to get back on the road to check it. Someone said it has a little better engine sound. That and one or two more hp would be a plus too..

Go to amazon. com I saw one on there yesterday for like $30 and the oil filter was $9

I'm not convienced you save a ton of money with K&N or any reusable filter. You have to buy the cleaner and oil to maintain it. The 50k mile schedule is hype. Filters get dirty and need to be cleaned about every 12k miles. Also, if you over oil a filter you stand the chance of contaminating the sensor.
I have the cold air induction via a shaker hood and was going to change to the K&N as that's what I've always used in my hot rods. The dealer told me that the oil used on the K&N would affect the air sensor and recommended against using them. First time I've ever heard that, and given it came from the dealer I don't know that I believe it, but thought I'd pass it along and see if anyone has experienced anything negative using the K&N in their Mustang.

The only way the oil will cause a check engine light to come on is if you OVER oil it after your done cleaning it. Its common for people to over oil the filters. It eventually drips into the intake and sets the sensors off. This voids the K&N warranty. They list multiple warnings on the cleaning kit and website about over oiling.

There is a K&N page debunking the myths about MAF fouling and pledging to back you up against false claims by dealers.
You'd really have to soak it for it to be a problem, I've cleaned and reoiled K&N's a few times in my RX-7 and 300ZX with no problems.

Thanks to those of you who responded to my K&N filter question ; you confirmed what I thought was the case, the dealer just wanted to sell me another disposable air filter and used the MAF/K&N myth to do so . Looks like I'll be heading down to my local auto parts store this weekend to purchase the K&N I wanted.
For whatever it is worth, here is my latest experience with a K & N filter.
My '01 F-150, with a 5.4 has a K & N filter. I took it out, and cleaned it, and re-oiled it. Evidentally, I "over-oiled" it. THe check engine light came on.
I took it to a independent mechanic, that I trust, and we looked for loose lines, etc. We thought we had found a problem with a hose, so we cleared the computer, and tried it again.
WRONG !!!!!!!!
We ended up taking the air tube apart, and cleaning the MAS, and so far no more light.
"I" really think that I over-oiled the filter.
Conclusion: My fault, not the filter.
Just my $0.02
