Default Okay, I did it, now how about chips... 2005 Mustang V6

Stlwagon, and others; On my '05 V-6er I just installed the single GT muffler and K&N air cleaner, not CAI, and want to move on to the "Tune". How can I get a mild Bama tune (staying on 87 Octane) w/o having to buy the SCT programer? Thanks in advance for your input.

You need to buy a tuner to get a tune! Depending on where you buy it it'll be anywhere from 150-400+. SCT is great from what I hear, I personally run the DiabloSport Predator and love it. I picked it up on eBay for about 150. Very nice "feel" after their 87 octane performance tune. If going for a used, big thing to look out for is that it's "unlocked". That means that the car it was initially "married" to has been set back to factory the the tune and been uploaded back to the tuner.

You must either already have a SCT or Diablosport tuner or buy one from bamachips. The tuner is what stores the tune and transfers it to the vehicle. It is not possible to have someone loan you one or have a dynotuner tune your vehicle without one. Every tuner is locked to a single vehicle and cannot be used on multiple vehicles at the same time.

To decide which one you want (bamachips writes tunes for both), call around to your local dyno shops and see what they're using. You'll probably want to use what thier using just in case you get plans for upgrades later that require a dynotune (i.e. supercharger or turbo). You won't have to buy another tuner at that time then.

There are a few tuners who can still burn a custom chip but it still costs ~$300 so you're much better off buying the tuner. Gives you much greater flexibility.

You will need a software tune to get the most out of your intake and exhaust upgrades. You will feel the performance difference over stock. I will be posting an ad for my BamaChips XCal2 tuner in the classifieds section. I am selling my Mustang V6 and am in the process of parting out the performance upgrades. The BamaChips programmer is three months old and I'm looking to get $200.00 for it since they cost over $350 new.
