Would a Diablo tuner really REALLY firm shift ponits?
I got a Hypertech programmer bundled with my 06 Mustang, I made the decision during the initial test drive because I really didn't like the way the car fell over it's own shiftpoints on sudden acceleration. The Hypertech supposedly increases shift firmness in automatics and I selected that option but honestly I can't tell if it did anything. My definition of firm is FIRM. Like maybe actually threaten to spill my drink a little or something. So I'm wondering what your experience is with a Diablo or SCT in regards to shifting.

Let me know how this turns out for you because i am interested in getting myself a Tuner for my GT Automatic. I also would like to have a few more ponies as well
I had a program from Justin @ VMP on my SCTXcalibrator2 that would make the auto shift,,,very firm, coffee spilling firm. I didnt care for it that much so he softened it up. So yes you can get really firm shifts from the automatic and that was with the V6
Perfect. I think I'm gonna get an Xcal3 from my local shop after work and sell the Hypertech. I'll let you know what it feels like on the stock program.

I think the tune is the factor that gives you the hard shift. You might not notice much with just the stock Ford tune,,,afterall they were designed for "comfort not speed"
I notice a decent enough difference and I have a canned tune. If you get a custom tune from one of the guys at Bamachips they can realy firm up the shifts. Just keep in mind long trips and day to day driving when your not hot rodding around. It might suck eventually to be jerked around so much if you like your tunes enough so they spill your drink when u drive lol.

My diablo had a tune called firm shift for the C&L CAI. I think I got it when I downloaded one of the updates from their website. It shifted normally while cruising, but at WOT, I could chirp 2nd and 3rd gear in my auto. My bamachips race tune shifts a little softer than the canned.

What can be done on this tuner? I have a 5 speed so I shift when I want/need to. Can you change the tire size, rev limiter, speed limiter and all that? The web site said +12hp's and +22ft. #/tq, so did the xcal 3 but the xcal stated to the wheels, and diablo doesn't say what they can do.
The Xcal3 can do all that. Although the place I bought it from loaded one of their generic tunes and locked out all those options :P Off the bat throttle response is improved over the Hypertech and shifting does seem a little better. Still not what I want though, when crusing in 2nd the throttle gets dull as I approach 3rd, pretty irritating. My 25 year old Thunderbird shouldn't be able to outshift my newer and smarter Mustang. Think there's still some improvement to be had by getting a more aggressive tune.

My dads automatic gt has a Steeda CAI and an xcal2 and all he did was a reflash and he was chirping 2nd and 3rd, the shifts were quite firm at WOT but not too bad at cruising, he recently got it dyno tuned and now the shifts are all jus smooth, hes alot faster now but those firm shifts always just feel so good

Wow that must be an awesome tune to chirp the tires in second with an automatic. How was normal driving, pretty rough? What RPM did it shift at?

normal driving seemed fine, i dont kno about the RPM, it was him driving and i dont drive often with him, only when my car is in the shop or something, the other day he offered to take me to the area to vote because i was not sure on its where abouts, so i took a drive in it and this was after his dyno tune and i can tell it was faster but not as fun because it no longer chirped

Just an update for those paying attention, I got the Bamachips 91 octane race tune installed last night and boy what a difference! I mean I've had like 3 canned tunes on the car since I bought it and this is like twice as good in terms of torque and quick shifting, I can't believe all the other companies don't do this. Low-end torque is substantially better than stock and the shifts are quick and sweet. Still a bit of lag when I tray to accelerate from a roll, I'm gonna try and determine if that's the overdrive's fault. But yeah DEFINATELY go Bamachips.

it depends on how many mph your going, your much better off on downshifting the automatic yourself when your in a roll
its all about where the automatic has you when you go to hit the gas... when you read this.. go out in your car and slam the gas while in drive at 45 mph and i bet you your car is gonna pick up QUICK but then try it again at 55 mph and its gonna be sluggish
