I've still been doing a lot of research on the choices I have. The SC Shelby uses is certainly an option, but I'm still more interested in the intercooled X-Charger when it comes out.
I asked Kenne Bell if they would ever build a SC for a V6. I got a one sentence response ... "no we won't." Too bad because their type of SC is more powerful than the others ... at least according to Mustangs and Fast Fords.
The more I look at the STS the more I like it. The company has a great reputation and has an undeniable presence on the track ... especially with GTOs (the fastest GTO in the country is STS powered). I like the weight transfer to the rear, it's cooler than standard turbos, has no lag (by many accounts), and the mpg is nice. I still have to wait for the new twin turbo system to come out this summer by the other company to make my final decision.
A single turbo in my engine bay is a no go for me personally. I want two turbos, or a remote STS system to deal with lag. Otherwise I'll likely get the intercooled X when it comes out because of the torque.
I've heard some people say that the STS uses new technology, and they are waiting for it to be proven before they buy it. Turns out those people couldn't be more wrong. I've been talking with a friend of mine who manages a Porsche custom shop, and it turns out that remote mounted turbos are nothing new at all. Apparently they've been around for decades now, and are common on many big rig trucks. So the technology is proven, and the rave reviews keep coming in on the STS.
For those concerned with the lag issue with an STS, go to their website and watch the "Two Guys" video. Their dyno clearly shows NO LAG.
Who knows, maybe I'll put an STS on with an intercooled X. I've fantasized about that for a while now, and apparently it's very viable. Mustangs and Fast Fords has an article about it this month. I'll have to be careful because of my V6, but with a couple of engine upgrades, and careful tuning, it can be done. |
