Default 2007 V6 Mustang Cold Air Intake Advice

My car is a 5-speed with the only performance mod beeing magnaflow dual cat back system

I am considering a cold air kit. I want to know if all kits are going to require a re-tune. Do they really give that much horsepower or is it mostly looks. Should I just buy a K&N filter. I had the K&N cold air kit on my 2001 GT and it sounded impressive. I want to make sure my expectations are in line with what the product really provides. I have seen a variety of claims ranging from 5 to 35 HP gains.

My exhaust mod improved my fuel economy by 1.5 mpg on average. I want to make sure this mod does not sacrifice MPG in any way.

The JLT and C&L are both good V6 intakes. Definitely needs a tune. You'll see a difference and it may even improve your mileage some.

is the re-tun something that a person with only basic knowledge can handle. That means I have to buy a tuner right? The price just keeps going up. If the benefit requires the tune I quess thats OK. I just don't want to spend the extra cash if there is no noticeable change to me when driving.

It's a very simple process. You can get decent package deals from BamaChips Tuning and BRENSPEED in the neighborhood of $600.

So maybe the real question I have is am I going to feel the $600 of improvement when I am behind the wheel. Will I hear it sucking more air only? I want to know there is a real difference between the $250 K&N kit and the packages with the tuners.

You'll gain another 15 rwhp with the tune over just the intake.

^ Agreed, the tune makes all the difference in these cars over the previous New Edges.

evolution performance has sct xcal 3/ C&L or JLT combos for under 600 bux (with shipping). if your looking for a CAI thats smog legal, i hear the S&B has a good intake that gives decent HP and is smog legal. it also wont require a tune

I got the C&L and Sct 3 from Bama chips, very easy to install both the intake and the tunes. Just make sure you install the right tune....but it walks you through it. I noticed the difference.

Won't a tune require premium fuel? Even if he gains fuel economy, he'd probably lose the savings and then some with the more expensive gas.

Is it easy to switch the tune back to the stock tune? It might be a fun thing to do if there is no commitment.

Yeah, tunes usually require 91 or 93 octane rating (depending what state you live in). It's pretty easy, it'll guide you through the whole thing. It's a lot easier than you think and their is no commitment except paying for 91/93 octane lol.

I'm not aware of any CAI that is CARB certified.

I am definately not interested in bumping the octane so should I forget the whole thing. It sounds like without the tune and high octane I may only be getting some "bling"?
