Hey everyone... I have a stock single exhaust 2006 V6 Premium Mustang, and my dad is thinking about getting me a dual exhaust put in for my 20th birthday. Our price range is about $500. We have only been to one shop and they quoted us at $450 to take out the single and put in a dual exhaust, but they did not specify what kind of exhaust it would be, only saying it would sound "close to a V8." I care more about horsepower gains than a better sounding exhaust, so am I delusional if I think I am getting a decent dual exhaust system for >$500? Which ones would you recommend that would get the greatest HP gain in my price range?(if possible)
ive heard that you gain more horesepower with a trual dual exhaust system. i was able to get a complete setup for 526$ with all of the piping, mufflers, and tips. i got it done at a local muffler shop. online is more expensive tho. but im sure depending on which muffler shop you go to, that ull get a significant hp boost. ive ehard that the stock v6 muffler is very restrictive so with just about any change in exhaust youll definatelyu free up at least 5-10 HP

actualy ud figure tht our ponies ARE designed for dual exhaust. note that our cars come with 2 catalytic converters with can support 2 separate exhaust pipes (or true dual) and still maintain legal emissions

I cannot recommend you a dual exhaust system, but from what I know and decided to to is upgrade my single muffler. Because our ponies are not designed for duals you are not going to see much gain difference between a dual and a nice good single muffler. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. True duals are a different story.
Also the price range for a duals conversion should be around 500 but also think about the bumper. I am pretty sure you will need to change it because our bumper has only the cut out for 1 muffler tip.
Again please correct me if I am wrong on this. I am not an expert, far from it.

I think if you browse the various Mustang forums and look for threads with similar themes, you'll find that there is consensus with regard to dual versus single exhaust on V6s: adding duals is an aesthetic rather than a performance choice, unless you have some heavy internal mods to the engine, or forced induction.
A GT takeoff muffler in place of the restrictive stock item will release some horsepower, and improve the Mustang experience considerably, for well under a hundred dollars.
Dual exhaust, at any usual price, will not add enough horsepower to justify the cost. It will make a difference in the way they V6 sounds and looks, and that may be sufficient justification, if that's what floats your boat.
I've run the single GT takeoff for a year or more, and am as happy with it as if it cost ten times as much. Next week I'm going to put on the Ford Racing Performance Parts (factory M-5230-V6) dual exhaust system that does cost ten times as much. Why? Because I want the changed sound and the symmetrical rear aspect. I don't expect the car to run any better or faster, but I will like it better.
I'll probably like it so much it'll seem like foolishness to have waited so long. Of course, I will have had the use of that big lump of money for the year I waited. That was worth something.
On the other hand, I may not think the difference is enough to justify the cost, in which case I'll be less happy, but still happier than if I hadn't ever tried it.
Summary: spend your money where your interest is. Duals is not the best place for $500 in Mustang V6 performance. If you don't have a Cold Air Intake and tuner/tunes, put it there. That and fifty bucks for a GT takeoff muffler will give you close to 200 Rear Wheel HorsePower, a not-too-shabby bit of work.
If you like to sound and look good, duals will do that.
and if you plan on putting more power into ur car other than exhaust, you might as well get the duals, becuase an intake and tuner is one of the best mods you can do to ur car.

If I were you, and in a way I am in a similar position, I would buy a new muffler and buy a tuner, then a CAI. I think you will see a lot more performance increase over simply duals, even true duals.
As FYouGitive said, true duals are more of a cosmetic sound enhancer on a stock vehicle. If you want the biggest bang for your buck, get a tuner, custom tune and cold air intake combo. Then add a GT takeoff muffler for sound and some hp improvement.
Tuner, tune, cold air intake and muffler will run you around $650 altogether but the difference in your vehicle will be more dramatic than anything else you can do for the money. Once you've done that you'll be wondering why Ford didn't do it at the factory to begin with because your vehicle will all of a sudden perform like a mustang should.
True dual will only net you around 2-4hp over the GT takeoff muffler whereas the CAI and tune will net you several times that for the same amount of money along with a large increase in torque (torque is where the fun is).
Edit: Sheesh, 3 more posts just while I was typing this.
