Exclamation New Gears and Driveshaft

I decided Im going to get rid of that junky stock v6 driveshaft. I am probably going to get the 4 inch aluminum shaft from shaftmasters. They seem to have one of the cheapest and best rated driveshafts. I also want to get either new gears with a trac-loc, prolly 3.55 or 3.73s for my 7.5 rear. I was wondering though if getting a take off gt rear would be the better and maybe cheaper way to go. Would that also mean I would need a driveshaft for a gt or could I use the one I am getting for my v6 from shaftmasters to work with the GT rear? I definitely need an upgrade though because of my supercharger pushing out so much extra horses, and I hate those one legger burnouts.

Overall if I get the $455 drive shaft and either just the new gears, or the new rear, how much in parts and labor would I be looking at spending all together? I will probably have CJ pony parts do the job since they can also do the speedometer recalibration at the same time.

I see from your sig that you are supercharged so I suspect you're putting down about 300 rwhp. I've think the common belief is that the 7.5 rear is good to about that range. But that's on street tires. With slicks or a soft composition tire you stand a chance of breaking the 7.5 rear end. IMO, go for the 8.8 swap and wait until later to change out the driveshaft unless you have the money to do both. The V6 driveshaft will work with the 8.8 rear end but you will have to buy a V6 pinion flange Part# E9TZ-4851-A.

Here's a thread that will give you some idea about the cost. One of the vendors mentioned has the pinion flange included with the rear end (newtakeoff.com). The cost is $800-$850 depending on gear ratio.

Good luck and keep us posted on your final decision.

ok thanks, so even if i do go get the driveshaft awhile I will still be able to transfer the new driveshaft over to the gt rear end as long as i get the part. Sounds good.
