Default Attn: Stlwagon - need your help

A couple weeks ago you gave me a great source for muffler hanger brackets for adding the driver side GT muffler on my V-6er, thanks. The hanger kit from Pypes Performance came with the two brackets and hardware, however, though there are properly aligned holes on the frame for the brackets, they are not threaded, some have a unthreaded sleeve in them and the others don't. Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance for being on this forum, you're input is great!

Hmmm. They should be already threaded. Are you certain you're looking at the correct ones? The drivers side hangers don't install the same as the passenger side. Picture would help.

you have to thread them with the bolts. they should self tap out.

They're not pre-threaded on the V6?

Yep, everything lines up but no threads in sleeves. I'll try the self tapping method.

I don't like using bolts to tap threads. Unless you're using grade 8 bolts it'll round the threads on the bolt when you tap it. If you don't have a tapper set, I'd go to autozone or checker and see if they have a thread tapping kit you can rent.

The self-tapping method works fine. I put a GT exhaust on a couple of years ago and did it that way. If you are worried, buy extra bolts and discard the ones you use for the tapping when you are finished.

Well, tried the self-tapping method to no avail, a quick trip to NAPA for a $4.00 tap and the problem was solved!
