New member, 2006 Mustang V6 Shifting issues, need help
Hey there,
I am a new member here. i have a 2006 mustang v6 manual. I am having problems with shifting. When my car is in 1st after sitting for a few hours or even over night I have had to put all my weight into pulling it out of first. And yes i am sure probably one of the 1st questions will be do you have the clutch in all the way, and the answer is yes...Sorry have already been asked that a few thousand times However, when I am driving it is also much harder to get it out of gears 1,3 and sometimes 5 to shift into other gears. It doesn't seem to be much of a prob. with 2nd and 4th but that just might not be as noticable to me since its mostly pushing instead of pulling on the shifter. I am a girl (as if you couldn't tell by the screenname) and I might not be as strong as some but I have always driven a manual and nothing else and this isn't normal? Can someone give me an idea on what might be wrong, b/c I don't want to go into my dealer and have them look at me oh great some girl that doesn't have a clue...
well i think all of us can agree on the shitty manual trans in our v6's, particularly noises. umm... how many miles? on the car, any other unusual noises did you just get the car?

I have about 65000 on the car. I have had it since new. As far as I can tell I haven't heard any other noises, but it does seem to be a little louder shifting (ie: when I shift into first at a stop I can hear it shift, and it just seems louder than what it should?)
have a mech. take a listen to it, if I could drive it, I could prob tell ya, sounds like worn sycronyosers to me. whats ur mileage? does it make anykind of a grind when ya yank it outta gear? let me know, there is alot of things to be looked at, where ya located in the carolinas? ya know where charlotte is? in nc?

I haven't heard any grinding, at least anything that has caught my attention, when I pull it out of gear. Last time I got my oil changed they said they checked all my fluids and they were good, but I am due for another oil change within the next few days, so if they didn't actually check it I will make sure they do. I only have about 10000 miles left on my warrenty and was worried that it might be something that I NEED to get it in there so my warranty will cover it.
P.S. I have to go for now, gotta get up early for work will check back tomorrow for replys, thanks for all the help so far, everything is greatly appreciated.
The bible (haynes manual) says:
Difficulty engagine gears:
-cluch not releasing completely
-Insufficient tranny oil
-Tranny oil in poor condition.Drain and fill with proper grade oil. Check oil for water and debris
-Damaged shift fork
-Worn or damaged synchronizers
Noise occurs while shifting gears
-Check proper operation of the clutch
-Faulty synchronizer assemblies
So get them to recheck the tranny oil and get the cluch looked at is what I would guess
BNUTS HIT IT ON THE HEAD. THATS THE VITALS OF TRANNY SHIFTING. STILL TO ME SEEMS LIKE WORN synchronizers. IF YA GOT A WARRENTY, GET IT THERE, TELL THEM WHAT YA READ HERE, LIKE YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT IT, BUT IT COULD ALSO BE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER. OHH AND YOUR VERY WELCOME, ITS WHAT AFM IS ALL ABOUT!! HELPING OTHERS!!!

definatly the best frickin car book ever made. this book is probably resposible for saving tons of people money and the usual run-around that those annoying mechanics tend to give you! as far as that tranny goes, probably the fluids, but also (dont quote me on this one) arent you sussposed to be replacing the transmissions every 75000 or so (average)? i may be wrong on that, im gonna have to check. but im sure the haynes manual is right, so get those above things checked out. good luck to you!

I thought I also read somewhere that some aspect of relation between the shifter and gears wasn't ideal in the V6? I dunno. Something to look into.
Or get a GT tranny!
