Default Which Tuners Are Best

I just bought a 2007 Mustang with a V6. I am considering upgrading it a little for just a little more power. I have been looking at the tuners made by Diablo, Hypertech and SCT and I am wondering which one most people feel gives the best features for the money.

I am also considering installing a CAI but have heard that they can be noisy. I have been considering either the K&N or the Airaid. Any thoughts on how beneficial the CAI is vs using the K&N filter which fits the stock air cleaner housing?

Finally, I am considering a CAT Back exhaust system. I would like to have some idea of the sound as I want a sort of low burble at idle and take off, but I am not looking to have it sound real loud to it drowns out the tunes, and also I don't want it to sound like a rice burner. I know a V6 will not sound like a V8, but making a nicer exhaust note than the extremely quite factory stock exhaust is my goal.

Thank everyone who reads this thread and also many thanks to those who reply and can help me get my project underway.

I had owned a Ford Ranger with a 3.0L V6 and there were some sites that had some things that could be done to improve performance, but I have found no such sites for the Mustang V6 4.0L. Does anyone know of any sites that have sort of little mods... maybe with the design of the motor etc such mods are not possible on the Mustang.

Diablo, Hypertech and SCT
I havent heard much about Hypertech but Diablo and SCT have tuners that sit in your car at all times. You plug it in to the power jack and it stays (I think) and its called on the fly tuning. You can have custom tunes, pre loaded and you can drive around with stock settings if thats what you want. It goes down from there. A hand held tuner will save your stock tune load a tune of your choice and its on there untill you re-load your stock tune.

K&N or the Airaid. Any thoughts on how beneficial the CAI is vs using the K&N filter which fits the stock air cleaner housing?

Personaly I don't like either of them just looks mainly. A lot of the extra tubing serves as looks and some strength. If its bigger then it can let more air into the engine. There is nothing wrong with the normal K&N filter but you can get a little more power going with the whole set up.

Finally, I am considering a CAT Back exhaust system. I would like to have some idea of the sound as I want a sort of low burble at idle and take off, but I am not looking to have it sound real loud to it drowns out the tunes, and also I don't want it to sound like a rice burner.

A lot of people on here will say go GT take off. Use U-tube and compare all the sound clips out there. That's all I am going to say cuz I am trying to go dual's.

I had owned a Ford Ranger with a 3.0L V6 and there were some sites that had some things that could be done to improve performance, but I have found no such sites for the Mustang V6 4.0L.

If your talking about "free" power there is nothing I have heard of yet. To me nothing in this world is free. You pay for it one way or another

i have the airrade intake and it produces a noticable gain. coupled with the dynomax dual kit and you have a nice performing and nice sounding 4.0. really from what i can tell neither of the tuners are really any better than the other, it all comes from the way you tune, or the downloaded tune you use. and as Bnuts said, i dont believe there are any sites that will give you "free power" tips.

Thanks Bnuts and 63Bmechanic. Your comments made a lot of sense and have given me some food for thought. I will do some research into the on the fly so to speak tuners as being able to switch back to the stock tune when I am just driving normal and not out for a thrill sounds like the way I would like to go.

I will have to search out the Utube site with the exhaust clips.. Hopefully they will have Dynomax, Flowmaster, Magnaflow and others so I can get a rough idea of the sound.

Again.. thanks for your input... I have put the K&N replacement filter in for the time being and I will go from there.

Thanks..
Dave

I had the hypertech programmer and it was ok, but was way basic and and theres nobody who writes custom tunes for them. so i ended up switching to an sct xcal3, with a bama chips tune. i have the airaid CAI and it gives a little gain, ive heard the c&l CAI is the best for our cars and i kinda wish i had went with that instead of airaid. but u can get the CAI and tuner package at the same time from alot of places. in my opinion flowmaster has the best exhaust i like it alot better than the gt take offs.

I have the C&L CAI with Diablo tuner and the Pypes cat-back true duals with x pipe. I am very happy with my setup.
I bought the C&L and Diablo as a set, and the Diablo came with the specific C&L tune already loaded.

I also have C&L and a Diablo Tuner, bought them both seperately, $300 for the C&L CAI, and Ebayed the Diablo for 270, really great deal.I am happy with my setup and the C&L isn't loud. It makes a cool noise when its really hot though haha, you can hear the air going through it when you roll the windows down.

I Also think C&L is top of the line for the 2005+v6 or GT mustangs, but just my opinion =)
