Hey everyone, I have a 2007 v6 Mustang Automatic( not stick for commuting reasons =/), I've had it about a year and the mods I have on it right now are a C&L CAI w/ DiabloSport Predator 93 C&L Firm shift Tune, and an AT Muffler. I think whatever I have bought for my car right now were really good investments =p.
I have no intention of putting a dual exhaust on my car because I want to keep it in a original v6 style, but I DO want to improve it. I am planning on getting JBA shorty headers, and want to get a custom midpipe. I am also thinking about cutting my Cats off ( I know illegal O.o). Does anyone know how much HP this would free up by getting all this? Does anyone else know of a v6 Mustang with a custom single exhaust setup?
Why not go with dual exhaust especially after all those other mods you've done and are going to do? If you ever plan on adding a supercharger you'd need dual or your engine would probably run extremely hot. I would NOT cut the cats off if you're going to run it on the street. I don't know about California but in Jersey that's a whopping ticket right there dude and since CA has the most strict emissions laws I'm sure it's only more expensive. Plus you'd never get it thru inspection either.
Ya, cutting the Cats is probably a stupid idea haha, I was just thinking about the more free flowing air and better sound but still if I get caught not worth it eh?
Yes I am planning on slapping on a Supercharger but probably not anytime soon cause they aren't exactly cheap =p.
Well my friend who owns a 5.0 advised me to get a custom single exhaust because it would be better than getting duals because the v6 Motor is made for a single exhaust and not duals, therefore getting duals would lose power then having a custom single exhaust.
I don't know if this is right or wrong, im not that good with exhausts but can someone clarify that for me?

u would gain some horsepower going dual, but u could lose a little bit of low end torque, in my opinion u really don't need to go dual unless u like the looks and sound of dual better or if u plan on adding some sort of forced induction. i think the v6 sounds pretty good with a good muffler switch. but if u get rid of the cats put long tube headers on they will give u more power and u might as well cuz u won't pass emissions anyway.

in my opinion and from some other input on this forum, putting on headers is a waste cause the stock manifolds flow well.? i went dual cause i love the look and wouldnt have it any other way i also have the gt bumper tho. i had also gotten it xpiped cause i thought it would flow better as well, cant really say for sure but the sound is different. as for the cats dont take them off the ticket if caught will outweigh any gains u may see. if anything go highflow cats but with a relatively stock v6 i doubt u will see any real improvement either and may just prove to be a waste of money.

shorty's are a waste for sure but they look cooler, but the long tubes will be better than stock, not sure if it's worth the ticket. where i live they don't even check stuff like that, so i'm gonna go dual w- the long tubes and no cats.

well out in utah who knows what they check and what they dont. but here in jersey the cops are pretty involved in just about everything and look for a reason to pull you over. they even have roadside inspection, which is like a roadblock for random car inspections. its nuts.

that's communism. u can still have ur cats hollowed out so they look legal. they really don't check anything here. lol. it's nice.

I put dual mellotones (flowmaster knock off) on mine and absolutely love them , One bit of advise though, they are LOUD .
First weekend I had them took a road trip and they about rattled by brains loose, literally gave me a headache. Next week I went back and had them put some glass packs about mid way up the pipe, quitened it down and sounds great.
Also i didn't notice any loss of tourqe and could feel a considerable gain from them. In fact when i left the shop I peeled the tires without even trying.
its good to ask people for advice on things like this, but really just take what everyone says with a grain of salt. do what YOU want to do to your car. in the end your the one driving it, so build it so that YOUR the one whos happy with it.

+1
deffinatly
just do somthing that you know you are going to be happy with in lets say, 5-10 years. its like choosing the color of your car. hardly anyone buys a lime green car, because after awhile its getting it lose its fun factor and just be annoying.

For the CAT issue, just buy hi-flow ones. (They are pretty much hollowed out shells of a cat but whatever works)
EDIT: I meant to say some HFC's are like that. In my old Z my aftermarket exhaust had "hi-flow cats" but it was really just a resonator/shell for inspection...
