Yup. Most bulbs have about 30 or 40 cross reference numbers that are all the same bulb. The 3157a is the Sylvania Silverstar bulb. Also works on your park/turn signals in the front. I know they're available at checker or autozone.
For example, the sidemarker front, sidemarker rear and overhead console all say to use the w5w (try finding that one). The 147 152 158 159 161 168 184 192 193 259 280 285 447 464 555 558 585 655 656 657 1250 1251 1252 2450 2652 2921 2825 also work. All that matters is the color of the bulb (I stuck blue ones in my overhead console to dim the light down some). The 2825 is the most common one you'll find at the autopart stores.

im aware there are more than one bulb that fit into the socket the same as well as look the same and will work, however i also know that not all these bulbs are the same as far as wattages and such. i just dont wanna melt and sockets or anything.

I just bought some 4057 bulbs from Bob Utter Ford parts online. They were under 3 bucks apiece but around 9 bucks for shipping. The similar bulbs that fit into the socket are not the same- they are different in voltage, wattage, and amperage, and won't look the same as the others if you care. I happen to care.

GM trucks have a problem w/ the DRL bulbs. My unofficial poll says that around 50% of them have at least one burned out. My guess is that it is heat or vibration that is taking them out.
Lately I seem to be noticing Mustangs (S197's) with burned out brake bulbs. I've had no problems (yet). But from the many responses regarding replacement bulbs I'm wondering if that is a frequent failure for us. Opinions?
well i also had that problem trying to find bulbs when one of mine went out and i found OEM bulbs at my local dealer paid $2.50 a bulb and there 3157 bulbs so i bought 12 lol just in case but i checked all autopart stores and none had them.

I checked my local autozone yesterday and they had the 4057 and the 3157. Both had the same specs, so I don't know why they are even different numbers

gah. same issue here - finding that 4057 bulb. went to auto zone, baxter, and schuck's and none of them had it. even popped in wal-mart, no dice. what a waste of time and gas, driving around for what should be a fairly common bulb.
i have the sequential harness, and might as well replace all six while i am at it, with some heavy duty bulbs. anyone know of a good online source for heavy-duty 4057 replacement bulbs?
