Hi, I agree it sounds like an Alternator problem with the electrical problem. However, with the wanting to stall and rough idle, that can be something simple. My mom had a 2000 Eclipse, it did the same thing, she took it to the dealer and they told her it was a simple fix, the intake where the hose goes into the throttle body gets dust in it or some kind of build up. they told her to have me take the hose off and with a clean lint free towel simply wipe out the inside of the throttle body and that would do it. So I took off the hose, wiped it out and sure enough, the car drove just fine and never had an idle problem again. May work on your stang, never hurts to give that a try. Sorry about the electrical problems, i hope you get that fixed. Good luck!
Hey goofie,
Some of these other people may be right in assuming that it's the alternator, but maybe not. I had a problem with my stang with the a/c clutch making alot of noise, took it in, they replaced the a/c clutch told me everything was fixed. Two weeks later, the sound was back, took it back in and they said the clutch just needed to be readjusted. One week later it was making the sound again and it was even worse than before. They finally just replaced the entire a/c system and told me to come back in on monday, cause they had a fuse and realy to replace(it was thursday when I picked up the car). Car was good for two days, then when I got on the freeway with the a/c on, the car stumbled. I was confused for a minute, kept driving though, nothing else seemed to be wrong. When I got off of the freeway 10min later, the car just up and died. I didn't even feel it shut off. Started the car again, tried taking off, car dies again. Now I'm royally pissed off. I call the dealership and tell them to get a tow truck out right away. After waiting an hour in high 80's heat, the truck shows up. And of course on Saturday, the service department has all of the idoits running it. All the guys that know what they are doing have saturday off (of course). The guy I was dealing with before calls me on Monday and tells me they pinpointed the problem. A loose ground and a blown fuse. With the a/c off, the car ran fine, once the a/c was turned on, the car died. So that last person you dealt with is probably right in assuming a loose ground.
By the way, my car runs just fine now. You may want to contact Ford like some other people have been saying or simply go to a trusted dealership.

Hi Animal,
Sorry you had to go through all that. Trust me I'd be super pissed as well. I have to bring her in for them to figure out where the problem is. It's been running ok. Only every other day it feels like she wants to die. I'm going to contact ford and let them know what's going on. No reason why I shouldn't.
Well this is an oldie but goodie. Just thought I'd give you an update. The alternator just went out on it. Autozone has one on order and it will be here tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised if your car ran normal after the new alternator is in. is the dealership doing the work?

No they aren't. They don't do anything besides the "free" oil changes. It's been a year since my original post and I've learned a lot about my car since then. This thread was created a year ago when I bought the car and didn't know anything besides the gas cap is on the drivers side. I've done and will do most of the work on the car myself. If it's out of my means I'll ask for assistance.
I'll be going over to my friends house and doing the change there.

good deal goofie. I'm sure everyone is looking forward to your post when you get the new alternator on and let us know if your car is running any better. if it isn't, maybe you can track down on the grounding points to ensure proper connection.

This is a great read. I can't wait to see what the problem is. I would lean towards alternator. Kind of sound like that's the problem. But I hate that She has had so many problems. My 07 has been great so far. I have owned it since January and the dealer replaced the battery when I bought the car. It just now has 37,500 miles on it and I have to drive mine every day. But so far it's been very dependable. I love driving it and I love seeing other mustangs on the road.
OK so don't laugh. After sitting here for a while I thought.."oh ****! I have the extended warranty". I called and sure enough I bought the extended which is good till July 2011 or 75K. I said that I went to Autozone and they said it was alt. They said well if you bring it in here you'll save $100 because the Alt is running you $250 plus your time. I'll only be responsible for the deductible. So I think about it and say WTF am I paying for if I don't take it. So I make an apt and run it over there. Run through all the symptoms and he says there is $110 "test" charge. But if it turns out it is the alt Ford will pick up the "test" charge and I'll just pay my deductible. So me and the g/f get in her mustang and as we're about to leave we hear him try to start it. It doesn't want to turn over. He closes the door and cranks it again. Sure enough it starts. I'm thankful it happened to him. It seems that when something is wrong it never happens when you want it to. We leave and all is dandy. So I think. We get home and no call from Ford. I take her car to work and while sitting here get a call. "Hi Michelle this is Frank. We figured out what your problem was. It's not the Alt. That is fine. You're car is running perfect. It's the battery. I'm actually shocked it didn't die on you." You got to be shitting me!!!!!!
Moral of this story......
I'm not sure. I took it to the dealer as I pay for the warranty, thought I'd save some money and time, and just incase it's something more serious. Turns out it's a $90 battery. I now have to pay the $110 test charge as it's not a warranty part and ford wont pick it up and the price of a battery. He tells me it's $110 for the test and $125 for the battery plus tax. I check out autozone and they have a battery for 89.99 + core charge of 12.00 = taxes. I tell him I'll just pick the car up and put in my own battery. No sense in spending $125 + tax for one. He's shocked by this and says what if I can lower the price and match it. I said then you got yourself a deal. $110 for the test and $89.00 for the Battery. This is still going to run me $225.40 all included. I just lost $100 with this whole thing. That $100 could of been my track money for next weekend.
Any suggestions on the above. Did I do the right thing? Autozone said it was the Alt not the Battery. Was or is there any way that I could of found this out myself? The battery light wasn't on on the dash. I know the battery and alt work hand in hand so when I was told that Alt is bad I didn't question it. Put a lot of faith into a auto parts store. Am I wrong for that?

ya, you could have inspected the cells in the battery for a cloudy cell, which would have meant bad. you could have tested the cells with a cheap tester, or you could have also charged it to full and had it load tested for free at any auto parts store. those are the first things to do whenever you have a battery related issue. sorry it cost you the xtra 100 bucks that was a expensive lesson. kinda like a computer tech, first thing they want to do is dig into the bios and complicated stuff when most often it is a simple issue and all they do is cause more problems

Yeah. It seems some of lifes lessons can easily been avoided. Trust me. I'm alert and educated now. I'm just happy to be picking her up today. I like driving my g/f's 04 V6 but I miss my girl. Just cross my fingers that's it for a while.
