Hey guys! i just got my 2005 vert not even 2 weeks ago! i've totally fallen in love with this car! but today in the middle of a U turn my car completly powers off and sits in the middle of the road. I put my flashers on and put it in park. I found some guys to help me push it to the side of the road but now the car is locked in park and i had to get a tow truck to help me get outta the road!
so now i'm home looking at my $95 tow receipt. ($83 for the tow and $12 for 11 miles worth of gas!!!)
now the power is off and none of the gagues work? could it be the battery or alternator??
in order to get your car out of park, if the trans i locked up, take off that little cover, then insert your key inside it, then shift the car into neutral, then take the key out, start the car, then the trans will be unlocked.
If the car died, it could be a bad alternator, its been known to happen a few times to our cars as well as everyone else out there so get that checked out.
not sure what you mean by that. nothing would come off when i tried. the car is an automatic also
I know its probably a little too late to say this now but, you should've read up on the 05's before you got one, b/c they were the first year of that model and they had problems so ya...idk wat to tell you or how to help but maybe read up on some of the recalls that were w/ the 2005's
ok guys! i charged the battery. the headlights and dash lightup when i switch the headlights on. when off the entire dash powers off and all i get is the red lock symbol flashing ever 2 seconds. if you put the key in the ignition still nothing. anything else???? the car is still locked in park.
If your car has a alarm, you need to reset it. When you disconnect the battery the alarm will reset on. If your car doesn't have an alarm try locking and unlocking the car with the key 3 or 4 times. The Shifter lock bypass is the little oval plate on the shifter houseing just to the right of the shifter.

That's what you're supposed to see on the dash when it's turned off. The flashing light is the passive alarm system they all come with (the active alarm is an option). Do what was suggested with the cover plate and key to get the car out of park and cycle the shifter a couple times through the gears, then stick it back in park. It might be stuck just slightly out of park and the vehicle has to be in park to start. Getting the tow might have bound it up a little. Might even have to have someone get on a bumper and rock the vehicle forward and back a little while you unlock the transmission. I doubt it's the computer but if this doesn't work, get yourself a tuner or code reader and see if there are any DTC codes thrown. It's definitely an oddball problem. I had a very similar problem in a Ford Aerostar several yrs ago.
If you didn't get an owner's manual with it I have one for the 05 as a pdf file.

You know where your transmission is, the shifter, on the right side as mentioned is a rectangle oval shape thing that you need to take it out with a screwdriver or something sharp, its the cover you have to take out heres the pic http://images.hotrod.com/featuredveh...of+shifter.jpg You see the little oval thing on the shifter plate on the right, thats the one, take it out, put your keys in and you should be able to shift to neutral. Hope it helps.
