With mileage like that, i'll tell you whats rarely up..the gas pedal..
Well, exhaust and intake do not require a tune, and should increase mileage..but its true that after you get a tune such as a 93 octane tune from a tuner (i.e. bamachips) your mileage will increase...not that the higher octane prices wont devoid this or anything
The truth is, just drive it easy as possible. The same amount of gas your car uses at WOT for 10 seconds could get you to probably the next town over!
Ok so do most of you guys have pretty big ranges for MPG? I've tested my 2008 Mustang pretty thoroughly on the highway and I usually get 33 mpg on highways. But son of a *****, I get like ******* 10 in the city. It usually comes out to be about 25 average because I do about 50/50 but I was just wondering does anyone know why our cars fluctuate so damn much! My friend's prelude gets 20 flat. I even drove is car 55 on the highway tailgating a truck and it got 20. So if you guys have any technical reasons why our cars fluctuate so much that would be nice.
I am guessing why our cars fluctuate that much is because it is a sports car. We can go 25mph at 2k-2.5RPM or 70 at 2k-2.5RPM. Also our cars are pretty damn heavy.

I know this thread is pretty old, but I wanted to let you guys know that I was able to stretch my highway mileage to just under 33 mpg. I added a set of Ford Racing Duals with the "X" pipe and a set of Mustang GT Take-offs. I drove the car for a little over a month to be sure of my mileage. I was driving from Columbus Ohio to Pottsville Pennsylvinia and back, around 485 miles one way. I'm now able to top off and go straight through on a single tank of gas. I've also found that on a long cruise, the higher the octane of gas the better the gas mileage. So I use premium on the highway.
I'm still working on the mileage. My next move will probably be a K&N cold air intake. I just hate to lay out 400 bucks for a "tuner" I'll probably only use once.
When I had my 4.0, I was getting 24 mpg if I drove 55-60 on the highway easy, and 19 if i'd push the car around a bit..now with the Z28 i'm getting about 19-20, 14-15 if i'm pushing, so you definately, definately are not getting appropriate MPG...but again, it's probably just because of the traffic. Still, 12 is low.
Are you fellows running with stock rear axle ratios? My V-6 manual is averaging close to 22 mpg on what is mostly short-commute driving. I try to shift at a little over 2500 RPM and resist the urge to put my foot in it (this is really hard).
i drive 40-50 miles a day,1/2 city, my v6 auto best is 22mpg. my g/f`s v6 man., about the same commute gets 25 mpg. i guess she won the argument that the man does better than the auto on milage.( before i got this stang. pt cruiser 4 cly auto same drive, 19mpg)

Our cars are just heavy fat asses. I get 34 mpg's on highway with CAI, 87 perf tune, and muffler, but 20 miles in the city with stop and go will knock my average down to a 26. It takes a ton of energy to get our big ass cars moving.

That is pretty damn good.
