Its all about sales. Why do you think the ford mustang is the only muscle/pony car to be continuously produced since its birth in 1964. Because ford is smart, and it produces a car that is affordable, and easily customizable.

i raced a DEFINITELY modded newer RSX at a green light. i let him go ahead a whole car length and then i went. i caught up to him and stayed with him, and i wasnt even flooring it yet. automatic + absolutely stock.
i initially wanted to get a charger V6 cuz it says 250 HP at the crank. i was like mustang V6 got 210, weak!
then i drove them. that charger even with 40 more rated horses..BOATTT. the mustang jumps to speed when i get back on the gas after a turn. charger didnt do that all. there are faster cars, but bang for the buck + looks + history..u cant go wrong with a mustang. even the "weak" V6

Even When We Are On The HWY At A Roll I Can Stay Inches Off His Bumper When Hes Got It Floored...And I Still Have A Few Inches Of Peddle Left....F.O.R.D..... First, On , Race, Day!

Btw this is a very old thread but a good refreshment. Next year the good old 4.0 will be replaced by a 3.7L 310hp V6 and GTs will get around 400 ish 5.0L

I had a CAI with a 87 tune, headers, magna duals,(214 rwhp & 238 rwtq ) I had a 5.0 cobra jump on me with, I think he had cut-outs cause it was loud as sh** when I got traction I had a little over a car length on him, he couldn't believe it was a 6. after I x charged i had a 5.7 hemi kept messing with me, My wife said" lets see how this pony gallops! I never got ahead of him, but I was right next to him,( 294 rwhp & 319 rwtq ) I wish I had my 8.8 w/3:73 in, a Hemi! I tried to get his attention to tell him it was only a 6, but he wouldn't even look over, I think he seen the 4.0 emblems on the fender, my opinion the 6 is a good little motor to mod. I'm asked all the time why I just didn't buy a GT. My reply how many GT's do you see S/C'd? alot, how many 6's, exactly! I still come in under the price of a GT and have more HP!

Well its all in the design of the engines. Yea now the 4.0 V6 might have the rated 210HP. But its also using electronic fuel infection. The new 2011 are using a new design. Ford has already created an experimental 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine that produced 316HP and 553pound feet of torque naturally aspirated. They use the 3.5L EcoBoost in the new 2010 Ford Taurus SHO's.
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) creates more power, and enables better gas mileage and better emissions. The process to do this is not possible with regular Fuel injection or carburated engines.
Better gas mileage comes from the fact that once you reach a cruising speed the fuel can be burned much more leaner. Somethings like up to 65:1 A/F. The fuel is not shot in until the end of the compression strokes. And its also shot right near the spark plug. Under moderate accelleration, it changes to a stoich A/F mixture and is injected during the intake stroke. Then under WOT it changes to a rich A/F mixture. Also, GDI allows for fuel to be injected in the cylinder more than one time per cycle in more than one stroke.
So no worries. More power is coming from smaller engine sizes. It seems to be somewhere around 100HP per liter. I was reading somewhere that the 2012 GTs were supposed to have a 6.2L option which would be over 600HP.
I've been getting alot of Flak for hanging out in a tuner forum with my 07 V6 Torch Red Mustang.
I don't plan on modding it much because as a Daily driver and a well balanced G-Stock classed autocross car its perfect! I don't spend too much on fuel and the car will keep up with alot of the imports out there!
As well in CDN dollars I had gotten mine at a reasonable 17 900 How many RWD cars still under warranty can you get for that price and actually have an aftermarket / factory performance backing.
It won't be accepted by the "Tuners" as its just another cheaped out on a V8 kinda person.
But hey, this read was really good and made me feel confident about my car again!
