Usually reading through the threads, i see hp of over 300 with turbos and nitrous. I'd like to drive my car for as long as possible and these mods put too much strain on the engine so I don't think that's the route for me. How powerful can the v6 get without these extreme mods? If so, which mods are these and how much has it cost you to get it up that high (parts and labor).

ported and polished heads, bigger throttle body, ported intakes, bigger injectors, racing cam, more spark coil pack, better plugs, cai mass air meter, true dual exhaust with x pipe, high flow cats, computer tuner, and a cool racing tach.
all this will cost about $2500- 3000 and that will probley only get you 250-280 hp
hmmm that seems like an alright alternative. how many of these mods are diy and how many are recommended to be done by an experience mechanic? (trying to figure out labor costs) or would the 3k cover that all?

remember im makeing a rough estimate, could be more could be less.
it also depends on how much you know about motors. im shure you can put spark plug wires on yourself, a screamin demon coil pack is a must just to replace that original one. the heads you can do yourself as well as the cam, intakes, injectors all that, but if your not shure about your quality of work take it to a pro and see what thay would charge.

im guessing the things you listed in your above post would run much higher then that, aftermarket heads and cams alone can range from $2000-$3000 depending on which "stage" you get.
I would call around and find out what you want, how much it will cost, and call a couple performance shops and see how much they want for install. If you are near the border of your state try calling someone in another state and see what they want for install, where i am in maryland they wanted $2100 or more to install my turbo but in PA they wanted $1300, so to save myself $800 i went to PA

new rear gears will help a bunch, they won't give u more horsepower but the they make a big difference in torque. theyre probably my favorite thing ive done to my car besides the nitrous. gears probably aren't a do it yourself job unless u have more experience than most of us. also a t-lok is a good idea while ur at it. gears a t lok and labor will run u about a grand probably.

Go to supersixmotorsports to see what you can get out of it naturally aspirated. They have heads and cams that'll bump you way up. The torque gains are dramatic. You can take a look at the dynosheets at thier site. The downside is that after buying the parts and paying someone to install them, it'll cost as much as just supercharging it.
Do the heads, cams, pistons and supercharge it and it'll put out 440hp.

Why wouldn't turbo's be healthy for engines? They are more efficient at making power than superchargers.
440hp is doable but it would not be the friendliest street car. The powerpacks from SSM with a super/turbo on them are usually alot of power for a street car.

Because once you get into that kind of power range, you need to start learning some new skills if you're going to use this to drive around town. The average driver whose experience is limited to commuting to work will be finding himself in a vehicle that has a lot more power than he can handle. Kind of like your average soccer mom who has driven a stationwagon all her life getting behind the wheel of a Suburban or Excursion, only to a much greater extent. With 440hp you can break the rearend loose and slide it sideways very easily. That's why it wouldn't be real street friendly to drive.
