Not really... The 3V block can actually support well over 700 rwhp. It's the rotating assembly that has limitations.

The 4.0 is cast iron. 4.6 is aluminum.

The 4.0 rotating assembly is...? STL might know... The 4.6 is... forged pistons? Sintered con rods? Why am I forgetting? (Hello? Because I'm a dumbass!)

The 4.0 is a basic engine, from crank to heads. Not for racing but built for durability, in it's range. The 4.6 is built for durability in a higher torque and RPM range. Supposed to be very reliable being driven by idiots. The 4.0 would not hold up so well. The crank is not supported as strongly and the connecting rods are not as tough. Don't overrev it and it should last you for decades.

Both the 4.0 and 4.6 use a hyperteuric piston design. Not terribly durable and not very forgiving of lean conditions.

Like the ill-fated chocolate pistons. Melty but delicious.

Actually when I owned the v6, come to think of it I heard this too, but I think there were a few more variables in the explanation..

I think the OP is refering to the fact the 4.0 has a factory forged crank but it is the pistons that always need work thet are hyper not forged. but I maybe wrong just ask my wife.
