Red face Stock Emer Brake Assembly fix?

The stock Emergency brake cable has broken at the end where it connects to the link where the two rear cables also attach to the link on a 2005 Mustang. The service manual says to replace the ENTIRE emergency brake assembly as it is not servacable. Cable broke at the very end and looks like I could almost attach a rod to it and readjust the cable and use it as is. Anyone done this? How about just replacing the defective piece of cable? If not are there any Ford parts suppliers that can supply the entire assembly without costing list price PLUS? On the Corvetteforum there are several dealers selling parts at net not list price.
Thanks, BIGHANK

Randy,

Looked that part number up on several online Ford parts suppliers.
It is listed as 2006-2007 Mustang base with the more expensive control being used on the GT.
I need to use it on a 2005 base (V6).
Will it fit? I drove a 2007 last month and most things were identical but do not want to buy something that almost fits.
The "NEW" control is 1/3 the price of the original one. Can't believe that.
The service manual says to take out the drivers seat and then the center console. Do I really have to remove the seat to get the console and control out?
Thanks, BIGHANK
