Improved gas mileage with CAI and tune I finally checked the gas mileage again on my V6 auto. First time since I put the CAI and tune on last summer and was pleasantly surprised
Stock, I averaged around 26mpg with 90% interstate and 10% city driving running the cheap gas. With the CAI/tune and 91 octane fuel I'm now getting 28.7mpg with the same driving habits (A/C on, jackrabbit starts, foot to the floor on onramps and 75 to 80mph on the interstate). That works out to about 1/3 of a cent per mile difference in cost between running the cheap gas and running the 91 fuel (with all the performance gains that go with it).
Bottom line: It isn't worth it to bring the car back to stock to be able to run the cheap gas. It only costs about $3.30 more per 1000 miles to keep the performance with no changes in driving habits. Woohoo!
