It would be real expensive because they have to pull the engine to change the cams. Two of the 3 timing chains are on the front but one is on the back and you can't get it without lifting out the engine. It's a much more involved process than changing out the cams on the v8 4.6 engine.

Note the part on that website that says "higher gains are expected with tuning changes."
They didn't even tune the car and it gained 25 rwhp not to mention that was just with their Stage 2+ heads. They offer a Stage 3 head and regrind cam set which I expect would make more power than the Stage 2 heads by themselves and then you've got tuning. My guess would be 40-50 peak rwhp with the Stage3 heads and cams.
Then theres those awesome non-peak 50hp/80tq gains as well, which I think make it a worthwhile mod if you want to build your v6 instead of trading for a GT or an engine swap.
SSM has a dyno sheet of their Stage 3 heads and cams making 440 peak rwhp with a procharger supercharger on their website under 4.0 Dyno testing.

I hate bumping old threads, but please bear with me.
I am very interested the the SSM stage 2+ kit for the s197 v6's, and I am currently saving up for it, but I read in this thread that cam swaps can be very difficult and expensive. Does the stage 2+ include a cam swap? It seems to me that it doesn't include cams, which would cut the install cost a lot, albeit less power gains.

Stage 2 plus high polished chambers and exhaust ports, exact
fit 1.83/1.56 swirl polished stainless steel valves: $1450* 226 CFM/176
CFM exhaust.
Thanks, and forgive the bump. I hope I get repsonses.
Stage 2 is only heads. If you want cams you have to get Stage 3 (clearance issues). I do not know if the motor needs to be pulled to swap the Stage 2 heads, but it definitely does for Stage 3 w/ regrind cams. Personally, if I was doing heads (hopefully someday) I would go balls in and get the Stage 3 heads and regrind cams. Plus, while the engine is pulled and apart, forged internals and lower compression if eventually going FI or domed pistons to raise compression if staying naturally aspirated.
I dont think i want to know what it would cost to have a garage do it. Parts are not too terrible but labor will suck A**.

How much power would domed pistons and raised compression? I guess it would be compounded with the full H/C/I, and my other mods, but a guestimate?
Labor costs would probably be just as much as parts for all that tough.

Yeah I did read that they will give you a rebate for the stock parts. That would ease some of the pain.
Anyone know if the heads and cams from here will make you car not street legal in Cali?
the heads are a maybe, if compression is not affected, the cam,if it requires a custom tune it will not pass.OBD II cars get scanned while getting smog tested. and yes Cali sucks for these stupid rules
