Default Throttlebody questions?

What is the stock opening for our v6 throttlebodies? Would it be an upgrade to swap a GT or shelby throttlebody? Is there anyway to have our stock throttlebodies ported and polished at all?

You cannot install a V8 throttle body on a V6. Most folks have found little gain on a NA car with a larger throttle body.

Zanteck offers a modified throttle body they claim to be close to 70mm.They do this by honing out a stock one and installing a slimmer butterfly valve. It comes complete, unplug the old one remove it and put the new one on.
Dont know what the gains are and I have one on my xcharger.

zabteck performance,,cost about $275.00

Unless you have heads, cams, or a power adder of some type, a larger throttle body isn't going to do much for you.

I would have to agree. The most restrictive component will limit you and that must be the stock heads rather than the throttle body.

So a good starting point would have to be a CAI and tune. How good is the stock exhaust system piping?

a CAI and tune would be an excellent starting place. The stock exhaust system is fairly good EXCEPT the stock V6 muffler. For a starter a GT takeoff is a good choice. Less restrictive and not a bad sound. Other more expensive aftermarket ones are good to.

I got a Granetelli throttle body. I think it's 70 or 74 mm. The claim was that I would get 11 HP top and 20 torque gains at peak. 22 HP gains through out the range.
What actully happened was an 11 HP loss and the check engine light came on. The system got too rich.
Had to put it back on the dyno, which was another $190.00, to lean it out a little.
They actully managed to get my HP back and I seemed to gain 4 FT/LBs peak torque, but no substantial power gains beyond that. It was on the dyno most of the day and it was all they could do just to get back what I originally had.
I did get a good gain in gas mileage though. I have a thread on here from a few months ago going over the whole situation.
People with supercharges tell me a throttle body is a must because the factory one will be a weak link in the system.
My experience is that a throttle body is a good long-term investment if you're planning on a supercharger, but shouldn't get done until the supercharger because of the retuning. Throttle bodies are NOT a good early modification.

There's a good reason Ford put on the throttle bodies it does. Bigger isn't always better..
