Today I finished up installing the Mustang 8.8 rear end into my 06 v6 mustang. The install was, for the most part, pretty simple. The axle is so heavy but with the help od my friend the install was smooth. If anyone has any questions just ask. I def prefer the install of the rear end instead of the gear install. Save so much time and money. I wish I knew this beofre I tried installing gears.

i have a simple question. i have a v6 also with the open carrier differential and 7.5 and i am wondering if i get a 05-07 gt takeoff (8.8) will i be able to replace my rear axle assembly with that. i am talking about the whole assembly axles brakes etc... also will my driveshaft fit into the 8.8?

You will have to re-use your brakes, but the rest is interchangable, yes your driveshaft will work IF you buy the rear end with the v6 pinion flange, If not, you will have to buy/instal the different pinnion flange to make it work. Newtakeoffs.com has them clearly labeled with v6 pinnion or not, so be sure (if you are buying from them) to check that.

Why do you say that the rear end is cheaper than gears and t-lok install? Is it purely for labor?

Well what I meant was that I had tried to install 4.10 gears in my 7.5 rear end with the new bearing kit, gear oil, and t lok. When I tried the install the shop totally botched it up and the ring and pinion were no good after that. So in order to try another install I would have had to get another gear set, another bearing kit, and more synthetic gear oil. Also, if you are running 4.10s you need to buy a differential pin that is modified to fit. Thus my cost went like this:
motive ring and pinion: 150.00
t lok: 200.00
bearing kit: 80.00
gear oil: 35.00
install: 300.00
total: 765.00 ----ish
Now I bought the 8.8 takeoff with 4.10s and t lok for only 775.00
So in essence it would have been just better and more cost efficient to go with the takeoff since I had a bad install and would have had to do it all over again.

It depends on your situation. If you know a shop that won't do you wrong, then get gears installed in the 7.5". Unless you're going to be shooting nitrous or adding a supercharger or turbo then then 7.5" rear is plenty.
I got my gears installed last Friday (Ford OEM 3.73's and FRPP posi). I brought in my own bearing kit and posi ($300 together) and paid $505 for the install and gears and everything else that goes with it.
The 8.8" would have cost me $850 (newtakeoff.com) plus over $100 to ship it and then another $200 to have installed because I wouldn't feel comfortable doing something like that on my own. So with your 7.5" you can get it for $850 and it'll cost around $1100-1150 unless you install yourself.
But like I said, if you've got a shop that does good work and will take care of you, theres no reason not to get gears installed on your 7.5".

Try calling takeoff.com and see what the prices will be for the rear end. I got a good deal talking to jason and got the rear end for cheap. Install is so simple cuz its just bolt ons. So I mean i guess its whatever you plan on doing with the vehicle. But I mean for a little more you can get an 8.8 rear end thats alot stronger. But so far Installed my rear end and its a beauty!

Yeah, it does really depend on your plans for the car and what you really need. Like I said, if you're going to be a bolt-on car then you're not really going to need more than the 7.5" can provide. In that case, yeah you could get the 8.8" for $300-350 more and all it does for you is provide extra strength that you don't necessarily need.
I know that i'd like to supercharge my car one day but I have the good sense to know that it's not going to happen. So for me, i'd rather have my 7.5" built and use that extra $300 on some new springs and a tank of gas.

Yeah haha well i've been spending close to $500 a month on gas alone since the prices went up and thats more than my car payment is.
I really meant more about the springs than the gas, but y'know. I prefer to spend some money on mods and either drop some in the savings or spend it on something else thats nice.
