Default Gas mileage and fuel grade

I know this is similar to other threads, but i was wondering what kind of fuel people usually use in there mustangs?
Right now the only thing i ever put it in 89 grade, usually from BP.
Does this affect your MPG and life of the engine? I know some cars call for mid grade gas and others dont, so I thought id ask around.

From what I know, you should not use a fuel that your car is not tuned for. But 89 octane is only 2 higher than 87 it might not make a difference, but I am not sure.

If your car is tuned for 87 you can put 87 and above in the car but if you are tuned for 93 and you put 87 in you can do damage, if your putting in 89 for your 87 tuned car then your just wasting money but i have also heard that the higher octane gas is better for your engine anyways

Higher octane fuel is basicly gas that doesn't combust as easy as lower octane fuel.

That is why you can get away with more advanced timing and higher compression ratios with premium; the fuel mixture ignites slower and harder.

Without a tune anything over 87 is just a waste of $ (IMHO of course). I'd highly recomend getting a tuner tho. I run several different tunes, all from an X2. From Bama I run the 87 performance for a daily drive (about 24mpg), 93 Torque or 93 Race (around 19mpg) when feeling particularly nasty or just having one of those days and the tank happens to be empty. I also run VMP's 87 economy tune when I know I'm going to be doing long highway runs for work, with that one I can pull about 31mpg fairly easy.

If you do plan on getting a tuner, make sure you have your "key" mods already planned and on hand. Things like CAI's and such should be done first or bundled with the tuner purchase. If your planning FI then thats a completely different beast, you'll be changing tunes as you build. For the majority of us we can adjust our tunes, example, the tires I just put on, I was able to compensate within the tune for the oversized tires. The rear end that'll be going in soon, that too has adjustments for the gears. Without question the tune has been the best upgrade thus far. It just wakes the car up.

Well my tuner CAI combo should be here within the next few days. I can't wait to see how it works. I got 89 torque 89 performace and 93 race. Do these seem like realistic tunes? ps i got them from bamachips. I wish they had 89 race
its not bad to use the 93 race every once in a while for daily driving is it?

I plan on ordering my CAI and Tune in the next few days and I asked some fellow people around here and they went with the 87 Performance 93 Torque and 93 Race so Id say thats my best bet for daily driving with the occassional wild side.

Iv never put anything in a car other than regular so to me it seems like a waste of money but then again Im only 20 and brand new to the Mustang world
