Checking out the new 8.8 rear end and there are these 2 huge honkin hunks of metal (technical term) on each end of the axle right where the suspension arms bolt in. These are not present on my stock axle. Ideas?

Those are vibration dampeners.

Thanks! Kinda what I thought since they had such a huge mass and dont appear to have any mechanical function. Those alone have got to add at least 4-5#'s to the rear end!

They can come off if you'd like. They're just there to reduce gear whine that transmits through the axle tube.
