I think 18 is as far as you should go on a mustang. 20s is too much. But this is just for me. For me a mustang must have rubber to burn!

It truely is personal preference. I personally chose 17" polished bullits, I just love the way they look. I just can't seem to get in to the larger rims out there, I just don't think they look right. I guess I'm just old school.

I like 'em all. They look good because the cars look good. There's no really bad-looking wheel when it's on a Mustang. Well, maybe a couple, but make your choice and ignore the nay-sayers.

My view is that the wheel-tire combo that matches original equipment revolutions per mile is a little small for the S197. 27.2 inches, approximate diameter; with a 1-inch drop, they look OK, but a tire bigger by an inch would "fill the well" better, I think. Then you have gearing problems.

The 17-inch Bullitts are easy to find and not very expensive, compared to others.

There are 18-inch wheels in plenty of designs and widths, and an extensive selection of 18-inch tire sizes and shapes. If I were to start over, and could only have one set of wheels, I'd go for 18x9 or 18x9.5 rims in a lighter version than the 27-pound 18x8.5 "Fanblades" I got from Tire Rack (on sale at $125 each). Lighter wheels are better for performance, and may be worth the extra cost. Steeda has some "Ultralite" 18x9s on sale at $180, 24.4 pounds, they tell me. They don't seem to me to be all that good-looking, but I'm always saying, "I can't see them when I'm driving, and driving is what's important with cars, right?"

Many people will tell you 18-inch wheels are perfect for the Mustang. They may be right, but I say it depends. Nineteen-inch rims, although less popular in the availability sense, look good in some situations. Like the 20-inchers, too much shiny metal may make them seem too big.

Any road, the only one you have to please is yourself. There's no hurry; do your research, make your choice, be satisfied.

I went w/ 17" GT take offs found on EBay for around $580 delivered. That's rims and tires COMPLETE! Then I sold my stock 16" tires and rims to a tire shop for $150. That's about $100 a wheel!! Take your time and look around. There a ton of options. Good luck in your search!

I have 20s on mine too!
My '94 GT has 17s. Looks perfect on that car.
My '06 came with the 20s the dealer had put on and I thought from the beginning that mine looks perfect with those.
20's are a little too much to worry about though. With very little sidewall, you hit a bump too hard and it's very annoying. Mostly because I stress on possible tire damage. I think with more rubber, you'll have less to stress over and and less metal means more efficient power transfer to the back wheels-more acceleration.
The 20s do fill the wheel wells the best-in my opinion.

It is a great vehicle, no matter what rim you choose!!!!

I'm stickin' with the "custom" look...

...at least for phase 1 .

Dubs on mine.
