hey guys, I recently bought an 06 black mustang with leather tan interior, it has the interior upgrade package. Well, I'm now wanting a black/red interior and was curious, how hard would this be exactly? I know the seats would just get recovered in red, the plastic pieces could be dyed black, but what about the headliner, carpet, etc...? Anyone here do a color change over before? Thanks guys!
WOW! that sounds like alot of work, you might be better off trying to find a wrecked one in the junkyard and taking everything out of that. there is a place here in PA, that just deals with mustang rebuildables....check it out @ www.billfoxsautosales.com
If I were you, I'd just sell the car and get one with the interior color you want. The problem with replacing/removing all those panels is that nothing will ever seat like it seats from the factory. I have grey interior. I used to want black interior. I changed my mind. Now I am glad that I still have my grey interior. As long as it is spotless, it looks great.
As far as changing the carpet goes, I unfortunately had to change mine. It is a simple task that even a strong 4 year old could do. He can be weak as long as he has some good air tools or an impact wrench to remove the seats. Otherwise, a strong 4 year old with a nice socket wrench will do.
You can select any color and quality you want. They make great carpet. Comes molded and ready to install. Add the mass backing. It really helps insulate the cabin area. It also provides sound damping. My exhaust never sounded better!

I can say that the headliner shouldn't be too bad.
I recovered the headliner in my truck ('97 chevy s10) and it was pretty straightforward.
Remove the headliner, rip the old fabric off, spray the headliner board and the back of the new fabric with 3M High-Strength 90 Spray Adhesive (i'm also told that 3M General Trim Spray Adhesive works even better but i've had good luck with the High Strength 90) and then put the fabric on the headliner board and form it down making sure all the cavities of the board are filled. Then trim around the edges and fold the excess over and hot glue it to the back of the headliner board. Re-install should be the opposite from how you removed it.
