Default How to Reduce Catalytic Converter Restriction

I'm not sure if I am asking this question in the right way or not. I want to know if there is a way to replace the Catalytic Converters with ones that are less restrictive to allow more air flow. I don't want to remove them because Georgia has annual emissions testing so I don't want to remove them and then go through an annual ritual of putting them on and taking them off.

They are high-flow cats available, several brands.I am sure someone with a S197 will post and tell you which ones they are using.

Pypes and Magnaflow make a decent high flow cat.

I used to have Magnaflow Cat converter for my previous car, they are great and not that expensive, around $80 for 1, so in this case you need to save $$$ for 160.

My future mods will include equal length headers. So this would just be an issue of dropping out the old manifolds and Cats and then replacing them with the headers and the high performance Cats?

Well, I was just looking for some High performance Cats for my car and came across a little notice that stated it is illegal to remove a working Cat from a car that is below 50K miles.

Has anyone replaced their cats with high preformance ones?

I was only able to find a Dynomax cat. Can someone give me a link or 2 of some highperformance cats for the V6 Mustang?

Technically its illegal to make any modifications whatsoever to your exhaust in many of the states. But its just about as illegal as going 60 in a 55....honestly...

What you'd need to worry about is inspection, but that is if you deleted the cats all together. You'll be fine

Actually it's illegal in every state since it's a Federal law.

In many states... it is illegal to replace the cats until the car has over 50 thousand or so miles, I think that is the number, unless the cats are defective and need to be replaced, and even then they pretty much want the stock units as replacements...

How strict are they... I don't know.. the old addage.. you pays your money and you makes your choice...

Good luck.. let us know how you make out...

ahemn.
*cough* smash it and replace it in your own drive way *cough*

Then its legal. Because you are replacing a damaged item.

With a legal part (high flow cats are legal)

And longtubes are illegal in CA but generally you only have to worry about cops giving you sh!t for stuff like that unless you own a import.
