Default SCT Xcal 3 Tuner from Bama Chips Update...

I finally settled on the tuner of choice due to many recommendations online as to which tuner, and I had previous experience with Doug at Bama Chips.

Here is my update....

My car is a 2007 V6 Convertible with the 5spd Automatic. About the only two mods are the muffler, the Ford Motorsports unit for the V6 and the K&N replacement for the stock air filter.

I ordered the unit with the following custom tunes...

89 Torque
91 Race
93 Race

The unit arrived about a week after I had placed the order. The download was very simple, and since the car had 89 octane in the tank, the first tune to try was the 89 Torque. I was very pleased as the car seemed to jump from a start rather than dawdle off the line. I did not have a chance to get onto the highway and really push it a bit.. but going up to 50 MPH I was very pleased with the difference in the way the car shifted and the acceleration off of the line.

I did not realize when I ordered the unit that 91 is not so plentiful and 93 is abundantly available in my area. If I had known that I probably would not have ordered the 91 tune, I thought the octane availabiltiy here was the opposite and I would be using the 91 more than the 93, I can see I was very wrong on that. So make sure you know what your three choices are before ordering to avoid the boo boo I made.

I will be testing the 91 race when I get to half full in my tank, I will fill it with 93 and that should be about 91 octane or so... then when I get down to near empty I will put a tank of 93 and download the 93 tune... and report on how the two race tunes feel to me.

I have to say that Doug at Bama is a really nice guy who knows his stuff... He is easy to work with and very accomodating. I know this as I had purchased a tuner from him about three years ago for my 3.0 L Ford Ranger and was happy with the tunes and the performance of the truck after the downloads... I would definitely recommend that anyone seeking to buy a tuner give Bama chips serious consideration as I am sure you will be happy with your purchase when you receive it and the service you get now and into the future....

Until later.. I am off to drive my car... LOL...
Dave
PS.. this is my current update as promised Stlwagon.. thanks for the advice and recommendations....

make sure you empty that tank to the very bottom then fill with 93 octane, you don't want it to knock on you

Good advice to which I will adhere hotshot... I think though that knock sensor should help to keep it knock free.. but will most assuredly reduce the power severely if it is getting into detonation... I agree with you and I will go cautiously with my testing... LOL

Thanks for the advice....
