Angry 2007 V6 Automatic shifting problem

Hi,

I have a 2007 Mustang V6 automatic with @20k miles and have an issue with the shifting. At about 45-55 mph the car will "buck" when I try to accelerate slowly (for example, I'm coming off an exit and trying to merge into traffic). I really have to push down on the accelerator to force the transmission to shift down. I brought the car back to the dealership and I was told that I should disengage the overdrive manually. I have never had to do this with any other car that I have owned. Has anyone heard of this before? Does this seem right?

Thanks!

Default that sounds wrong

Automatic should mean "fully automatic". No manual shifting necessary. IMO, they are full of crap when they told you that you have to turn off AOD. Is the "bucking" only at around that speed? When I first bought my 05 car, it had a "bucking" issue but, it was when I would start off from a light after a long drive at highway speeds. I believe it was something with the fuel pump. But, I would punch it and it would take off. Sounds simular to what your having but at different speeds.
Good Luck

I haven't experienced this with my '07, but perhaps Im less sensitive to it than you are. I would take the car to a tranny shop or a trusted mechanic and have them look at it. In my experience I have had better luck taking my car to an independent mechanic to tell me if something is wrong before going to any dealer's service center. If there ends up being an issue that should be covered under warranty then I go to the dealer and tell them what I think the issue is and make noise until they look at it.

Just don't tell them you had someone else 'look at it' or they'll start feeding you BS about voiding your warranty.

i noticed before a tune that i would infact have to turn off overdrive or i'd be basically sitting still while hitting the gas hard, at 45 mph i would fly but if you hit it at 50 your in the wrong gear.

Default Issue Found

Hi,

Well, I brought the car to another dealer and had the mechanic drive along with me so I could show him what the car does. Come to find out, the issue has to do with one of the cylinders misfiring. Seems that it gets worse when trying to accelerate when going up hill. So, in the end, not a tranny issue but a stupid spark plug.

Many thanks for the replies!

This, my friend, is why I have been going to the same mechanic for 15 years now and will always go there before going to a dealer, always.

Anyway, Im glad you got it sorted out.
