Default Did First Oil Change

My son wanted to learn how to do an oil change. So we took the opportunity to do the Mustangs first oil change ourselves. Everything was going fine until we got to the oil filter. It seems the factory torqued the sucker on so tight we could not get it off by hand. When we used an oil filter wrench we had little luck there as well. eventually we were able to get the thing off after about an hour of sweat and muscle. The filter ended up being crushed a bit. The filter was on so tight. I had to turn it 2 times before it started to turn easily. Way to go UAW. I guess they never heard the rule that you only hand tighten an oil filter not torque it down

Any way, we had a good time and the customary test drive was a blast. Good Father and Son time together.

Default Way to go ...

... Dad! You guys probably had a wicked good time even with the filter problems. I had the same kind of problem with a Ford F-150 I bought in August 2000 ... the filter was on so tight I had to punch a hole in it and turn it with a screwdriver to get it off. Maybe the factory does things this way just to cause us grief ...

Still, I'm sure the time together was worth the effort!

I have this same problem with every car I buy; new or used.

The morons that get stuck doing oil changes at shops ALWAYS crank the filter tight...

My preferred oil is Kendall GT-1 Synthetic blend.

This time I used Castrol because the they did not have Kendall in a case.

i have used full synthetic in the past and did not see a huge benefit.

I had to use the same solution once on a different vehicle too.

I had the same problem with mine, but after a couple of strong pulls with the wrench it came off. Way to set your son on the right path. It's a lot more fun to do it yourself, and you save money. Not to mention my wife looks at me pretty longingly every time I change the oil in our cars. Thank God I have a real woman.

Someone had asked earlier about which oil to use ... Seriously, ROYAL PURPLE! I actually keep meaning to add it to my mod list, and no I'm not joking. The car feels so much better with RP over normal oil. That stuff is worth the money.

Default full synthetic

I use pennzoil platinum, I always find a good price on it, use it in all my cars, used to use castrol syntec, I like both.
