Default Leased 2008 V6 with warranty. Will S&B CAI void?

Hi. this is my first post and the reason i subscribed to this website is because i have a question that is killing me. I would love to buy this nice S&B cold air intake for my 2008 v6 mustang but it is leased and under warranty. will it void the lease and/or warranty if i do?

my gut feeling is telling me yes. but if i were in your shoes, i would go ahead and do it. If anything should ever happen, just swap back in the orginal intake.

I did my intake 2 days ago and it literaly took me 5 minutes. Just 1 or 2 things to unscrew/loosen to get the orginal off...

I would do the muffler as well... Quite easy. For V6, muffler and intake is a must for mpg and hp.

I would not recommend doing any modifications to a leased vehicle. Technically you are renting a car for an extended period so the car is not really yours. When you turn in a leased vehicle they look for anything they can charge you for as unusual where and tear. And they will charge you an excessive amount to fix minor issues. If you do decided to modify the car make sure you keep all original parts and have them reinstalled when you return the car.

Having been with Hertz Car Leasing, I would strongly suggest you read your lease prior to making any alterations to the vehicle other than having broken OEM equipment provided at delivery replaced with like OEM equipment.
If you chose to go ahead and do it, although the lease says "no", the leasing company may have the right to periodic inspections. Than also, if there were to be an accident and the car is inspected there might be a "situation". Remember, you do not own the car and the "owner" does have certain "do's and don'ts" rights regarding THEIR property.

just keep swapping the intake during their pediodic inspection if they do that. If you get in an accident, swap the intake the next morning at the place where they tow it.

F the law, have some fun.

I think you'd be taking a risk with any performance modification.

Why would you invest money on mods for a car your planning to turn in ?? Mod a car you plan to own.

What a question Tony. I've never known anyone who wanted to modify a lease vehicle. In fact I never heard anyone talk about it until you raised the subject.

To me, sticking mod money into a lease that will be turned in at the end is like sticking money into a rental car. I wouldnt do it.

I would also ask myself if the mod was intended to be enjoyed with a lot of driving that will likely result in over-mileage fees.

About your warranty question; why dont you raise the question with the leasing dealership and see what they think. At least ask what the worst case situation is if you install a CAI or combo package on it.

If you had Ford install the FORD CAI (not the S&B) then it will be warranted.. same goes for the upgrade package #M-2007-FR1V6***. (I've already asked mine).
HOWEVER.. unless you've got $1,049.00 PLUS the extra money for the shop's hourly rate (roughly an additional $200 for the kit mentioned above).. I'd just get a K&N air filter (approx $44.00), to swap for the junky OE one and call it a day.
