I'm looking here on americanmuscle.com and both gear ratios for the V6 S197 are the same price, what's the difference between the 3.37 vs the 4.10's can anyone tell me?
The 4.10's are a higher gear ratio and will give you more 'go' from a dig. The downside is that your cruising RPM's will be higher than they would with 3.73's. The stock axle has 3.31 gears in it. The 3.73's will run your RPM's up by about 250 at 70mph and the 4.10's will be around 500RPMs higher at 70.
I'm going to be getting a gear job next week and was originally planning on getting 3.73's but i've changed my mind to 4.10's. If your car is a daily driver then I recommend 3.73's because of the rediculous gas prices but if you've got another car to beat on during the week then get the 4.10's.
And don't forget to install a Ford Racing traction lock while you're at it.

The only thing that I know is that 3.90's are a lot harder to come by than 3.73's or 4.10's, which is why they're a less popular choice.
They would be a fair compromise between 3.73 and 4.10 though...
PEOPLE SAY THEY MAKE TO MUCH NOISE OR SHOULD I SAY WHINE 2 MUCH BUT I GUESS ITS ALL ON HOW THEY ARE INSTALLED. ALOT OF PEOPLE SAY THIS ABOUT THE MOTIVE GEARS.

Motive gears have a bad rep from people getting them installed wrong and ending up with gear whine. A good install shouldn't have any whine regardless of the gear brand and ratio.

know any sites I can check out the 3.90's and price range? And just checked out the Ford Racing Traction loc have any idea where I can get a better deal then 199.95? And my stang is an everyday driver, so if I can find any 3.90's I'll most likely go that route.
This "best gear" question comes up sooooo often, and the same answers come up, and I have read 4.10's are the wa to go for NA, but 3.73's for supercharged. I have never seen anyone explain this to me. Wouldn't having the 4.10's AND 300 plus hp be advantageous?
What's all the talk about 3.90's?Do they exist for a 7.5 rear end?I sure never have seen any...but ya i would go those over 3.73's maybe even boosted depending what type.
I can't find any 3.90's for the 7.5 rear end. So I may end up going 4.10's, but I saw something about 3.73's being better for supercharged V6's? what's the theory behind that?
Well, too low a gear and it is way too easy to go into boost.Might make a good track car,but not a DD,lol.I have 3.73's and an x-charger and it's just about right overall.Still think i'd be ok if i had the phantom 3.90's tho haha. Also, inclimate weather is something to consider too.
Well,for instance i am a manual car,and at 70mph i am around 2300 rpm in 5th gear.If i stomp 1st gear,i can redline it pretty darn quick.4.10's would be hard to catch 1st gear right,in my opinion.With an auto,you don't have these worries,lol.
I believe a vortech gets into boost a little later,if that's what you are getting. There really is alot to consider with a supercharger or any forced induction and gears.
