Default problems when i raced my 4.0 against 2000 gt mustang

well i was on the freeway comin from work yesterday an i saw a black gt behind me i already new so i turned off the traction control an overdrive an even rolled up the windows (left off the a/c) ne way jus like i knew he came up hella fast on me. so i hit it an was jus bout to pass him when he jus jumped right in my lane wat a jerk. ne way i got off the freeway an got home. ddnt notice ne thng but my dad told me my car was leaking. sure enough water was spilling out the radiator idk y this would happen. do i need new radiator cap, maybe it was loose or do you think i could have other serious problems???? by the way i know i was at least doin 100

Default Radiator issues

Check all of the hoses for cracks going to and coming from the radiator as well as the bands that fasten them to the radiator. Don't open the radiator cap until the car has completely cooled. I know this one was obvious yet my buddies still do that once in a while when they are not thinking.

Also, there should be a plug in the bottom the radiator that is loose or there may also be a bad gasket on the plug that is causing it to leak. I have never taken the plug out of a radiator from a car like yours so it may just screw in with no gasket. If that all looks o.k. you may also have a leaking water pump. If that isn't leaking check the reservoir tank for a crack as it may be coming from there. You might have hit something on the freeway that could have punctured the bottom of the radiator so look there. I don't think the high speed stint that you had could have caused it but I think it was just a coincidence. You only have about 6 or 7 places the antifreeze could be coming from so use my advice as a check list and go from there.

Some cars have had problems with the radiator bottle having a deformed lip on the snout. Remove the cap (when cold) and check for any abnormalities or loose plastic that might be preventing a good seal.

What do you have done to your V6 to be able to keep up with a PI GT?

If it was a 2000 GT then there must have been something wrong with the car or the driver was very very bad. They are not the fastest cars but they are definitely not slouches either. They do have 260hp and 300trq. that is usually more than enough to hold off even bolt-on SOHC V6's. Either way good job on keeping up with it.

I'd get some mods before I'd take on a GT.
I'm already working on getting new 3.73 gears, Suspension upgrade, CAI, Dual Exhaust, & Tuner.
Even with those you're still only going to get at best approx 50 to 60 rwhp. Now if you want to really make a difference you can put on a turbo or super charge it, or heck there's always nitrous.
Ultimately to beat any other car it comes down to how you can drive the car you're in.

Come back to earth ... your not gonna get 50-60 HP with CAI, Dual Exhaust, & Tune. 20 to 30 is more like it.

I kept losing water and no visible signs of leaking. Faulty water bottle, Ford replaced it. Service writer told me they've had the same problem on other mustangs.

This could be pretty serious, I would just take it to a mechanic that you know or trust.

First off I'm pretty well grounded, and I have some info to back it up. Second I guess I'm sorry for being vague for you and everyone else. So I'll be more specific:
Depending on the equipment you purchase it's more than possible.

SCT Mustang Live Wire Tuner (96-09) = +11 RWHP
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/musta...livewire-9.jpg

Pypes 409 Stainless steel V6 Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit = + 5 to 10 rwhp
Pypes 409 Stainless Steel V6 Dual Pipe Conversion Kit (2005+ V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

C&L Trueflow intake system = +12.6 to 16 rwhp
2005-2008 Mustang V6 C&L Trueflow System

BBK 70mm Throttle Body = + 6 to 10 rwhp
BBK 70mm Throttle Body (2005+ V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

4.0 Throttle Body Spacer = 10 to 20 rwhp
2005 - 2007 Ford Mustang 4.0L V-6 SOHC Throttle Body Spacer: Hubcaps Plus After Market Parts and Accessories For Cars, Trucks and SUVs

So if you do the math on the conservative side you've got
an estimated 30 to 40 rwhp gain, and on the high side pushing 50 to 56 rhwp gain. So I think I'm pretty grounded on my first overall estimate.
I could add additional information on suspension and switching to the 3.73 gears but at this point that would be overkill.

But if you really wanna get mod crazy here's proof you can mod a V6 without blowing $7,000.

Gray Pony is correct with this one, those claims were probably not made with a basic stock V6. Other things were added or manipulated to get those gains. They might of used a Dynojet (usually rates hp/tq higher than a mustang dyno) Don't believe what you see in the mags or internet(hp/tq #'s), they are just trying selling their product. 50-60hp on the fly maybe, but 20-30 rwhp to the gound(that's what counts)

Hate to tell ya, never works that way. Without F/I your getting little if not nothing from the throttle body and spacers.
