I just saw the other thread about the lucky dude that installed the 8.8 in his v6, and said it was a better option than going for the gears. However, what if I wanted to do both 8.8, and purchase gears for that rear end? Would that be too much, and would I have to get any additional parts to be able to withstand the new installation? Where can I find an 8.8 rear end online? Or should I go to the junk yard and find a mustang and tear it from there? Im so lost when it comes to modding cars and gears are no exception. I dont plan on doing this anytime soon, supercharger comes first I think.
Newtakeoff.com has the 8.8" take-off rear end with 3.31, 3.55, 3.73 or 4.10 gears. It comes with Ford traction lock (NOT FRPP) and Ford OEM (NOT FRPP) gears installed already. Supposedly it is a direct swap if you buy it with the v6 pinion flange.

Because take-off parts are parts that come from stock cars that were turned into Roushs, Saleens, etc. Stock Mustang GT's come with Ford OEM gears, not FRPP. FRPP (Ford Racing Performance Parts) is a different company.
Ford OEM gear sets are actually held in higher regard by good gear shops because they last the longest and are designed specifically for the vehicle. The problem is that they cost an arm and a leg brand new. The solution is to get a lightly used set of Ford OEM gears installed in your car, if you're going the 7.5" route like I did. I had a set of used OEM Ford 3.73's installed that had around 30,000 miles on them. The gears I had in the car were from stock so they had 68,000. As you well know, most cars last well over 100,000 miles before their gears need to be replaced (although you're supposed to have 'rear end maintenance' at 70,000 miles)
The other upside to getting a used set of OEM Ford gears is that not only are the pretty much the best gear set on the market, but you pay a bit less because they're used and they're already broken in from the first vehicle they were in. This means that you don't have to risk having any whining, you don't have to go through heat cycles and you can beat the **** out of them as soon as they're installed.
