Default Best Spark Plug to use....

I have my tunes from Doug at Bamma... and I have noticed a sort of offline midrange stumble sometimes when leaving from a dead stop... with sort of half throttle... full throttle just lights up my tire... I have been wondering if it is either the fuel filter, the car is a 2007 V6 4.0L Convertible. I don't have a CAI, only have a FRRP Muffler... I was also thinking maybe it is the E3 Plugs I am running... and was thinking of changing them, but am not sure to go with Platinum, Platinum Plus or Irridium... Also which brand works best with the Ford Engine.

I would appreciate any information that could be provided... Thanks... Dave

Copper is the best conductor. Change em every 10,000 miles and you won't have any problems. You're just kidding yourself with anything else...

Dear Ponyone.....

That is good advice.. and since I do my own plug changes, doing it every 10,000 miles would not be a problem. Thanks for the reply....

Do you have a particular brand you would recommend... Mortorcraft, Champion.. AC... Nipodenso... etc...?????

I use NGK V-Grooves for everything from my 425hp 460 to my wife's Grand Marquis with the 4.6 and have never had issues...

Most plugs are designed to be replaced every 45K miles. There are long life ones that are designed to last 100K. I am not sure that changing them out every 10K has any real benefit unless you do a lot of driving in heavy traffic mixed in with a lot of start up and shut downs everyday. Similar to a delivery person or courier would do. On the other hand I can't see how any plug can last 100K unless the only type of driving you do is on a clear highway everyday. For average driving I would think that you would still be able to get your plugs to last at least 25K to 50K depending on whether they are long life plugs.

If you start having trouble starting your car on cold mornings I would look to replace your pugs. Or you could do a plug change annually.

I just replaced the plugs in my wife's 2001 Grand Marquis.

It just turned 100k miles and was starting to run a little rough.

I cleaned the K&N air filter, changed the oil with Mobil 1 and put in some NGK V-Groove plugs.

When I took out the old plugs, they were the original Motorcraft platinums...

They were pretty trashed, with a couple suffering from extreme carbon build-up.

Still, color was a perfect light tan; a testament to the 4.6

E3! Horsepower TV compared E3's to the other premium brands, and E3 won in hp and mpg. I realize they were paid by E3, but I was intrigued. I started doing research, and found several on the boards that swore by them. I checked my local parts stores, and got the same response. It was enough to convince me to try them. I had to special order them, but will have them in a week.

I think that I may have mistakenly been blaming the plugs when in fact I needed a higher octane gas. I put a tank of 93 in even though the tune I have is for the 89 torque and it seemed to pep it up. Let us know how you like the E3 plugs after you put them in...
