I have recently noticed that my 2008 Mustang V6 seems to be having transmission problems. When i either drive on the highway (100KM/H) or side roads (80 KM/H) this problems occur. When you leave from a complete stop or entering the highway (on-ramp) speed (40KM/H) and increase to whatever it may be and you take your foot of the gas and settle into travelling speed / rpm around (2000-2500rpm) or 110KM/H or less. When you re-apply the gas to catch up again it seems the transmission gets stuck and rumbles a rmrmrmrmrmrmrmrmrmr sound. (Sorry dont know how to type the sound) you must get the car into higher rpm (GUN IT) to get the transmission out of that weird sounding gear, But as soon as you get off the gas, then re-apply it does it again. I have no idea what is going on.
If you need me to elaborate more i will try. Or if this doesnt make sence sorry.
If you Still Have The Warrenty or so....Take it in and have them fix it. Otherwise Im kinda lost. I have had trannie problems before and had to get a whole new trannie. Not CHEAP

Yup, you've got a full warranty. Don't worry about it. Just take it in and let them worry about it and fix it.

I think i know whats your problem, theres no problem I know exactly what your saying, it happens to mine too, it is apparently a normal thing. When i past 60 km/h speed my rpm drops to 1200-1300 range and the car seems to have no power when you press the gas and engine seems to have huge load on it. IE. imagine that you have a manual tranny car and you start the car from 3rd gear, see how its hard for it to move. I dont know why Ford made it to shift to high gear at this range of speed, i have to press the O/D on in order to jump to 4th gear when i want to pass someone. I think the tuner would fix this problem since Doug is stating he uses completely new shifting curve and torque converter scheduling for the auto in his Race tune so thats where im heading and also recommend you to follow me
I would assume he knows what overdrive is and that isn't it...but...

When I loaded VMP tunes, I had the same problem. I thought that it was transmission or torq converter problem. I asked Justin and he told me that was exhaust noise. That was very annoy. I ordered tunes from BAMA chip and the problem solved. In short, I don't think that is the transmission problem. If you can not tolerate the problem, buy a tuner and tunes to load to your car.
venom800tt your exactly right. It really feels like you have no power until you gun it out of that range. I have a Flowmaster American Thunder Axle Back its loud but its not the cause. It has happened since day one when the car was purchased, i always drive the car with O/D on. I would tune the car but its under warrenty. Ill let ford waist they're money to find out what is wrong. hope its nothing big, i need all my money for gas (My mustsng is automatic by the way)

You know that you always can go back to stock tune if you want to go to dealer, mine is under warranty too for 3 years powertrain, but i will flash back to stock if i want to visit dealer, i hate this shifting too and cant take it for 3 years . But i know if you dont want to risk your warranty, dont do it. Let me know how it goes with your dealer, if they actaully mananged to fix it, i'll go to my dealer too
i will let you know as soon as i know whats going on. i have the 3 yeaar 60 000 for general problems and a 5 year 100 000 for engine and transmission. The car is going to die before the engine and tranny.
If you folks are driving without the overdrive, you're losing a couple mpg. Overdrive exists to maintain speed without high rpms (I think most have about a .6:1 ratio - .6 engine revolutions to 1 axle revolution). If you drive in 4th (o/d off) you're in a 1:1 ratio and higher rpms. It's your gas money but that's what it's for.

Mine is other way around, i have 5 year bumper to bumper and 3 year engine & trans Why i have 2 year less on powertrain!!! Are you sure thats the right numbers?

I heard that you shouldn't stay off in O/D for a long time, is it true? Like would it hurt the transmission if you go to work and come back (an hour driving) all the way stay off O/D? Or would it just eat gas!!
If you are not driving at highway speeds turn off the o/d. At least 90km/h up there, 50mp/h on this side of the border. The engine doesn't make enough torque for that high a gear to pull the car. It will wear out the bands in the transmission. Been down that road with the transmission in an Explorer my daughter was driving, and not listening to her father about that o/d button.

HELP!!!
I think you have an auto? I got a new 2009 and it gets stuck deciding when it should switch sometimes. When I am going at like 3000 RPMS then gun it, it takes a minute. Has to do with the transmission, but its not a problem.
