Default Need Answer About Possible Spring Problem

I installed my FRPP springs last weekend. I have been driving the car around for a week now but noticed noise when I go over bumps or on rough roads. I am pretty sure that I tightened all the bolts but I am concerned that I may have missed something. Should I take the car to a shop and have a mechanic look it over? Or is increased noise part of what comes with the installation of lowering springs?

Any help would be great. I don't want to do any damage to my car.

What kind of noise are you hearing? What does it sound like? Where does it sound like it's coming from? When does noise happen (driving slow, fast, turning, over bumps etc.)?

When I drive over speed bumps or a rough road I hear a clatter type sound. Like something is loose. I also heard a soft clunk like sound coming from the passenger side when I turned in hard. I thought it was from the wheels not being tightened up enough. I checked all 4 wheels and tightened the lug nuts and it softened up a bit but I still hear it sometimes. The back has a bit of a rattle on rough pavement. It is pretty quiet on the highway unless I go over a really rough patch but pretty much silent.

Do you have the springs seated correctly? I'd go back under your car with a torque wrench and make sure all of the bolts are tightened down properly.

If I remember correctly.. and please correct me if I am wrong, but you are the fella/fellas that mentioned in another post that when you were installing the springs that one of the ball bearings fell out and was lost from the strut mount right? and you never replaced it figuring it wouldn't cause any problems. I would bark up that tree first before anything else if that is the case. If you did replace it then I guess you have something totally different. Is it comming from the side that the ball bearing was missing on? If so I bet that is the issue.

I am the one with the missing ball bearing. But it is not the only part of the car that is making the noise.

I will get back under the car and see if there are any loose bolts.

i got the spring issue sorted out. I took it to a shop and they found that the 2 bolts that connect the strut to the suspension worked themselves loose. In other words, I did not tighten them down enough. All is better now.

Now that your spring issue is corrected, how's the ride w/ the Ford springs compared to stock? Is it now still close to a stock (softer ride)? Or is it pretty stiff?

It has a very nice ride now. The springs are progressive. The little bumps and textures of the road are similar to the stock feel. But when you turn in aggressively the car stiffens up. It is very enjoyable to drive.

Thanks for the info. I'm running Vogstland lowering springs with Tokico Sport Shocks and let me tell you...the ride is jarring. I think I'm going to switch out to Ford springs like yours very soon. It's cheaper than paying my chiropractor every other week. Thanks again and enjoy your ride!

Default More spring problems

I just put the ford lowering springs on my 2007 GT today. The rear is great, but the front is clunking. On highway it is fine, but rough roads it sounds like bad shocks and clunky. I am going to recheck all the bolt, but I had a lift and I used an impact wrench so I don't think any bolts are loose. What I am wondering about is when I took off the old springs in the front, I took off the old dust covers. Inside there were metal half round peices that were inside the plastic dust cover. I took the old metal peices out and they would not go inside the new dust covers. So I put the yellow foam piece on, then the dust cover, then the metal half round piece on top. Then I put the springs on then compressed the springs, then last put the top plate back on. etc..etc. I am wondering if the way I put that together has put metal on metal that is wrong. The way it was before was basically metal with the small plastic edge of the dust cover over it. Has anyone run into this? or any other sugestions. Thanks.
