Default Will a Vortech smoke my 34,000 mi motor?

With a show of opinions, preferably those who have a supercharger on their 6, does anybody think that I will blow my motor if I install my Vortech since my engine has about 34,000 miles on it? I'm only planning on the stock pulley (I think they are 8 psi) and only occasional drag racing, just fun daily driving is my plan.

no you shouldnt as long as you keep the number in the low 400 rwhp range. Also get a safe tune.

Instead of going straight to force induction, why not just rebuild the engine a bit. Get some forged pistons, a forged crank, cylinder heads, and cams and make that v6 a beast. Then you wouldnt have to worry about your engine blowing from the boost. Rebuilding an engine isnt that hard, just time and patience. LOL.....just make sure you do some research.

While I am NOT afraid of turning a wrench, I do however know that rebuilding ANY motor, is is costly ordeal. I have the supercharger, it is paid for, and I wan't to bolt it on. I am however a bit trepedatious about driving it for a week with a poop eatin grin, then scatering my motor because it could'nt handle it. I just want to find out if others out there think it will be all OK, or if I am asking for trouble. That's about it. If it comes to it, and I have to rebuild, I will, but not because I just wanted to, it will have to be something catastrophic. PS I hope not!

i blew my motor with my turbo on 8.3 psi and 40,000 miles so just be prepared, my motor always acted like a lemon though, throttle body went out at 9,000 miles, a bunch of electrical problems, transmission overhaul at 35k so you SHOULD be fine but like i said be prepared

With a modern motor such as the 4.0, 34,000 is not a lot of miles. I don't suppose you'd risk destroying your motor with 34k as opposed to 10k or 70K if your motor hasn't been abused to this point. The determining factor, after you install the Vortech, will be how YOU drive your car.If you abuse it, it won't matter how many miles are on i - you WILL smoke it!

There is no magic formula. If the car has been cared for I agree that 34k is not a lot.

Well, I bought it used with like 18,000 miles and it has been used mostly as a commuter on the freeway since I got it. I have no idea how it was driven prior to me owning it, but I know that I have a lead foot sometimes, but I don't "abuse" it per-say. I know that with a supercharger, I will be very tempted, and tempted more often to massage the floorboard than I do now. I think I am going to go for it, and just be nice to her and see how it goes.

My dad has a Mustang v6 2005 with about 75k miles. When I get his car I will put a turbo on it, 9 or 11 PSI. It will be over 400 hp when its done. I was wondering if I need to get forged internals or just get a new engine? Thank You in advance for your replys. Also how much would a new engine cost?

That's a litle high on mileage for 11 psi of boost without rebuilding the engine. Me and my friend work on cars a lot and I would say to be on the safe side I would def rebuild the engine with forged internals i.e. pistons, crank..etc. What good is a blower without an engine that can handle it. Most people go straight fot the blower, but I have known some people that blow that engine. I mean it's not too hard to rebuild an engine if you have done it before, but try it with a safe tune and see what happens.

You should be fine you don't need to go through the whole rebuild thing as long as you kept up with your oil changes when you were supposed. Check your compression on all your cylinders and if it checks out good I would not worry. As far as a safe tune you can buy a kit that comes with a hand held tuner they are normally safe. Mine came with a diablosport tuner I have had it on for about 3 years and I must say it is working pretty good for me. Knock on wood.

I say you decide its not worth it and donate the vortech to my mustang fund so I can have all the fun with it, ha, but my little knowledge of engines says you should be fine, although if you rebuild that engine you could get some serious power out of it.
