Currently, I have an 05 ford mustang 4.0L with S&B cold air intake, taylor 8.2mm thundervolt plug wires, and diablosport predator tuning. I was wondering what would be the best exhaust for the car, either dual or single. Also, what brands does everyone prefer? I'm looking at either borla, jba, or frpp for dual exhausts and either borla or flowmaster for single. Anybody have any suggestions?
I installed a Pypes dual exhaust with the x-pipe. It was a pretty simple installation. The exhaust is great looking and makes the V6 sound pretty good. However, it does have a pretty constant drone, and I am thinking about changing out the mufflers or seeing if a muffler shop can install resonators (I think thats what there called). If you like it loud you'll love the Pypes.
Get yourself a Flowmaster American Thunder muffler.
$180, 25 minutes installation and 10rwhp later you'll have a smile on your face that you wont be able to wipe off.
In considering dual vs. single you should know that there isn't any considerable advantage to having a true dual system over having a single system. Unless you're going to use forced induction you wont see more than maybe 1 horsepower more with a dual set up.

The mustang is piped with 2 1/2" piping which apparently is plenty for a free-flowing single exhaust, given that the stock muffler is removed or replaced with a free-flowing model.
Some guys have reported up to 16rwhp increase from a simple muffler swap, with dual exhaust yielding nearly the same results. As I said before; you may gain a hp or two but chances are that its going to be the same or not enough to notice and therefore not worth the extra money you'll spend except for the visual effect.
Even further, for the bit of horsepower you might gain at your top end, you sacrifice low-end torque due to the loss of back-pressure.
And as i've read the Pro-chamber doesn't add much for horsepower on its own anyway. I would imagine that since the exhaust is already free-flowing that it wouldn't help much. If you're a 'every little bit counts' type of person who has a big wallet then you might be able to get up to 20 or more rwhp with some headers, Pro-chamber and dual exhaust. Then again, you're still sacrificing low-end torque.

Even the GT take off mufflers, which you can buy on Ebay for under $50, are a huge improvement. I love mine- it has a good sound but no highway drone.

I have the dual Flowmaster American Thunders and love them...there definitely was a big and noticeable difference over stock.
