Hey man, welcome to the site!

Its a bee-otch to get the GT grille to fit in the v6 bumper but it can be done. Whomever told you it would fit without any trouble was lying through their teeth: its tough to get it in there.

Start by cutting off all the clips along the bottom of the grille. I think there are 4 or 6 of them. Do not cut off the clips on the sides.

Next fit the grille as far into the bumper as you can and then with a flashlight look between the bumper and grille to see where they're pressing against each other. Now using a hack saw blade with a rag wrapped around it or very sharp utility knife, cut a few relief slots on either side of the bumper. This will allow the bumper to flex a bit more when you try to cram the grille in there.

Even with the relief slots cut its still a battle of wills. Took me 2 1/2 hours to do mine by myself and i'm a pretty mechanically inclined guy. Might try asking a friend for help.

I've got to take that 'Maggie' off my sig.

Maggie is the cars name but I think more people actually mistake it for my name. My name's Josh.

I honestly don't think you'll get it in there without the relief cuts. The bumper doesn't flex enough and its totally the wrong shape. All of the relief cuts should be made in the 2 corners although one or two across the bottom of the bumper may help as well.

I went so far as to try lubricating it with some Meguiars' quick detailer to get it to slide in but it wouldn't go until I made the cuts.

Another thing i've considered is the possibility of using a heat gun to soften the plastic enough to let it form arounf the bumper. Unfortunately i'm not sure what this would do to the paint and I dont have $200 sitting around for a new bumper if I mess up the one I have. I'm not even sure that the bumper is made out of a material that would reform itself like that; it might just burn.

Johnny,
If you are still having problems, please email me racer03@rhtc.net
I have a DVD which shows you step by step. It's really not all that hard.
Thanks,
Ron

John & Alex,

Whatever you do - do NOT cut any tabs or anything else. The GT grill will fit if you have a little patience, without cutting anything. The GT grill is .500 wider and .250 taller than the V6 grill. You will also have to mod the hood release. The DVD explains it all step by step.
Alex, I got your address and I'll send you the DVD tomorrow.

Yeah rgen, I emailed you about getting a copy of that DVD but I haven't recieved any response. I'm really interested to see how they've made it fit without removing any of the tabs.

Thanks!

Default gt grille into v6

Hi, the darn thihg is in!.it took a while and 2 guys. My only suggestion is to carefully shave the bottom corners of the gt grille. Do a little at a time so as to assure a tight fit. Also a block of wood covered by a cloth pressed on the bottom corner should help push it into the bracket. Bring plenty of patience (which i dont have) but the results are worth it. Ps mine are just dummy lights no bulbs but they look fine. Thanks to all that responded and this is a very friendly and helpful site, thanks again ,John
