Default Is it necessary?

The instructions for the FRPP tuner say to hook up to a battery charger while using their tuner. The instructions for the SCT tuner say to remove certain fuses while tuning. I realize this is to reduce the chance of a loss of power during the process, but knowing how overly cautious instructions can be; do you guys do these things?

It is not necessary to go through all of that, it's just a precaution in case the battery is low. If your battery is in good shape, now worries. Just make sure you don't have any accessories like the heater fan on to be on the safe side. The reason being you are flashing the computer and if the battery happened to go dead, it could become corrupt.

If you lost power during a flash, the only recovery would be to have Ford reflash the PCM to stock. Then you'd need to start over. Agree with Pete, not necessary to do anything special.

Thanks for the info. I was a little worried because I was going to do this in two stages. First I used the FRPP tuner to restore the stock tune and then use the SCT tuner to install the 93 torque tune from Bamachips. I was a little worried about running out of power but it ended up just taking a few minutes and everything went fine.

I've only driven around the block since I installed the 93 torque so I haven't had a chance to really determine how different it is from the FRPP tune, but honestly I couldn't tell much difference in the very short drive I took. I really need to drive it more to tell.

The one thing I did notice was how terrible the car ran on the stock tune with a cai and 93 octane gas in the tank. I took it for a short drive before installing the new tune. It was barely driveable as it wanted to sputter and miss quite a bit. I really didn't think that the cai and premium gas would make it drive that bad with the stock tune.

With the stock tune and CAI you would have been running very lean which is why it was running so poorly.
