Hi, I am looking to put a turbo on my car and was wanting to aquire it over time. I wanted to save up and put a turbo kit on at the end of this year but after some financial issues having 6 or 7k at once is going to be an issue. So my question is... If I buy all universal parts to make my own turbo what size turbo do i need? my car is a2008 v6. My goal for my car is about 380-400 hp at the wheels. Thanks ahead for any help. Josh
Thats what a few people say to me. I have put dual cat backs on , a CAI, and flash tuned it so its around 190 now. My next small project is installing an HHO kit which will produc another ten to twenty hp. I also am saving for an aluminum driveshaft. These alone will put me around 220. Currently i am attacking the small things to get me as close to 250 as i can without a turbo, like the driveshaft and i thought about UDP. So i figure around 250 w/o a turbo should get me around 375+ with one. But thats just a thought. I am not an expert by any means.
Your car is putting out around 175rwhp right now. Even with a turbo you'll be lucky to break 300.
You're going to have to pour a ton of money into that motor to make it run like that.
not true at all. Im making 335-340 rwhp and 400+ torque on 8.3 psi from my 61 mm intercooled turbo (aka the powerhouse kit)
O and as for your turbo size, its really w/e size you want, i like my 61 mm but the GTs come with 67mm turbo kits so it just depends on your price range and overall goals for the car, 61mm is plenty enough to make 600 rwhp

mine is fine, i do plan to replace it but its got 47,770 miles on it. 7k of those miles are boosted miles. If your gonna be going over 115 mph frequently then i would change it.
You should also get an 8.8" rear end, possibly with some taller gears. The 7.5" is too weak to handle over 300rwhp on frequent launches and it doesn't have limited slip.
That is if you want to put all that power where it belongs; on the ground.

I definetly agree with this, i personally would recommend 3.73s

I am already running 3.73s. As far as I know they come stock on the 2008s. I may be wrong. I am not sure of the size of the rear. I thought it was 8.8 too. Maybe not
o ok. Thanks guys. I coulda swore my invoice said 3.73 i guess not. I will have to find it and double check. Will i accelerate better with that gear ratio? and how hard is it to change the 7.5 rear to 8.8
You'll see a very noticeable difference between 3.31 and 3.73. The 3.31's are boggy in 4th gear between 35 and 40 and don't allow for much comfortability when idling through a parking lot in 1st. The 3.73's are easier to get into gear, make 4th gear useful from 35mph rather than 42+ and allow for a pretty fair speed for idling through traffic or parking lots in 1st.
Most people who have done the 8.8" swap say its pretty easy. Personally I chose to get 3.73's and FRPP trac-lock installed in my 7.5" but i'm not going to be making over 250rwhp so the 7.5" should be fine for me. If you're going to be making over 300rwhp you should definitely get the 8.8" rear or you risk snapping your 7.5" like a toothpick.
