Thanks for the information. I am still a little fuzzy on the "tune" still. I assume I need to take it to the dealer for that, and if so..... what "exactly" do I ask for? I mean.... they ask me.. "what do you want"... I say "A Tune"....... they say.... "A Tune What"...... LOL ....... sounds like a bad knock knock joke, ....

I cant really afford a good intake right now, and to be honest I am not sure when or if i will. I am looking for a CHEAP intake for two reasons.

#1 - I need a new Air Filter with is $11 so by the time I need 5 of them, I would have paid for a CHEAP intake with a re-useable cone filter.

#2 - I like the sound it makes..

Although an HP gain is nice, my pockets are empty and my reasoning does not support one.

So, if I buy some CHEAP $60 intake for the above reasons, will I still need a "tune" , and what will happen if I DO NOT get one?????????

To sum this up..... my two questions were.....i want a little more info on the "tune" and what I ask for to get one at a dealership, AND.... what (if anything) will happen if i add a cheap intake WITHOUT a "tune"???????

Thanks in advance guys and sorry to drudge up a OLD thread...

If you are going to get a CAI for the V6, as I did, you will definitely want to think about getting a tuner combo. I purchased the BBK CAI for my 2006 V6 while I was running 87 octane and it set off the check engine light because it was running a little lean. I ended up buying the SCT XCal3 with a 91 octane performance tune to fix these problems. JLT seems to have the least expensive CAI/Tuner combo, but from the reviews I've heard from friends both online and here at home, the C&L is one of the best you can put on your V6.

A (Tune) is not a Tune-Up as say plugs, wires ext. A Tune is a (Hand Held Computer) that TUNES your Car's Computer for better Preformance and with the Hand Held Tuner you'll also need a Big CAI (Cold Air Intake) to go with the Tune. For this set-up you'll spend around $600+ With the Tune you'll also need to go Higher Octane with your Gas , it depends on wich Tune you Tune your Car too, it may be 92 or 93 Octane.

It's easy to do yourself so dont waste your money asking a dealer to do it.
