I am looking for the best cold air intake for a V6 mustang 2006. Let's here some opinions, what's good and why? Thanks!
There all about the samething. When buying one dont always first look at what hp it gives you. Remember there trying to take your money. A cheap one will work just as good as a 200 dollar one. The reason it's more is because of the brand, and finish it comes in. Some say the plastic "cai" are better because it dosent soak up as much heat vs. the metal kind. I have a bbk fender well "cai" and I like it!

Hi this is dave . Just installed the bbk cold air intake tonight. I only have driven the car 4 miles tonight just to try it out. The sound is very nice its easy to install. Ihave a 2007 v6 with gt dual exhaust on. The car seems to run alot smother. I have a site for you to look at this is why I bought mine. The bbk got alot of good reviews. BBK Cold Air Intake (2005+ V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! hope this helps !
There are tons of threads about this, use the search button and youll be impressed with how many times people asked and answered.
Anyway going cheap is not good for something important like your engine, you want to save $100 and you end up rebuilding a 4-5 g engine. I would say get the bbk which is $199 very nice and affordable. I hope you know that you need a tune with your CAI so you dont run lean and screw up the engine. Never run the CAI without a tune unless the ones that are made to run without tune like K&N which is waste of money, no good gain on HP. Im still waiting for my C&L to come. JLT and C&L works perfect for our 05+ cars

The bbk cai are a non tune cai. The only reason there more is because who makes them and finish. It's just like cloths.
A cai will not blow a motor. Mant people here are running the cai from american muscle. There only like $80.00 and there happy with them. You are right on some cai that need to be tuned to your car.
If you look at the "k&n" vs the "roush" it's the same thing.

Where did you find a $80 intake for the 05+ Mustangs Im on there site and the cheapest is BBK for V6 which is $199 and second cheap is JLT $209. I hope you know that hes looking for 06 Mustang not the 97-98
I dont see a point of running a CAI that dont require a tune, you wont gain much, maybe 1 or 2 max, the most important part that you get a huge gain are the ones that require tune which combo will give you 20-30 rwhp. So its up to you which route you want to go, hope your more clear now
i was just looking at a k&n, its was like 280.00 straight from them. i cant beleive they are charging that much for a plastic tube, and a 29.00 filter. oh ya, the 2 sided box that mounts to the fender well. what a rip for us, and a money maker for them. i`m thinking they are like 200.00 too high. even the 199.00 is silly for what it is. i could undrstand polished aluminum being more due to the price of metals. is there something i`m not seeing in the setup?

A LOT of the CAI systems out there require a tune, or they will actually decrease your gas mileage, and not improve the performance. The only two I found that increased both without a tune were the BBK and the Roush. Personally I went with the Roush CAI, and I love it. Big performance increase, increased gas mileage, and sounds great.
The Demolet "Tunable induction" CAI is one of the cheaper ones out there and I think it rated pretty well in HP gains. They have a bundled CAI/Xcal 3 package for only $499. Considering the Xcal 3 is $379 by itself, this is a great deal that I'm seriously considering for myself. The JLT is also one of the best for HP gains and less money than the C&L, which is nicer looking.

They had one on there a few months ago I remember that because There was a thread on here that talked about the cai for 80.00. And yes it was for the (06). It wasnt a brand name like k&n or bbk. I think it was one the they made. Kinda like what summit and jegs does. A cai alone would not give you 20-30 rwhp I know that. It might with a tune but your also playing around with other things on the computer. With out a cai and with a tune you could still get that or dam close to it.

Hey there....at the risk of sounding like a noob, I have a question. When you say that some Cold Air Intakes (CAI) need a "tune" what do you mean exactly? Do you mean a tune up, and if so... what specifically?????
I sold my 1995 Dodge Avenger last year and bought a 2006 V6 Mustang. I had an intake on the Avenger....nothing special, just one I bought off ebay...you know....polished pipe and cone filter. Anyway, it worked fine and I never got a "tuneup" if thats what you are referring to.
I want to buy a CHEAP Intake for the Mustang and have again been looking on ebay. I saw one before for $50-$60 but looked again tonight and saw thats its gone. I dont need some fancy $200+ intake.
Anyway, if someone could please explain the "tune" you are talking about (specifically) and why I would need it, that would be helpfull. Thanks.
The best permormance intake and tune combo to get is a C&L intake and tune from bamachips, that combined is supposed to get you 20ish rwhp. Thats what i got and it turned the car into a completely different animal. It will also greatly increase the throtle response and shifting(if auto). Check out the Bamachips website. The Tuner is 400 and the intake was like 250 (slightly cheaper when you buy them both at once) and that includes the tunes you will need for the intake. Dont bother with intakes that dont require a tune, you need to retune the car for any performance upgrades. Our 4.0 is very sensitive to air intakes without proper tuning.

wow, you dug up a fairly old post. i didnt even have my exaust(my first mod yet) the "tune" is a program that re-tunes the computer to bring out the best performance for the modifications you do to your car. the tune alone will improve the performance to a stock car and motor also, getting you better mpg and some performance. if your looking for some good performance, a 60.00 cai is not gonna get it. save up about 550.00 and call chris rose at tillman speed for a cai/tuner/tunes combo.
