Default JET Chip - 06 Mustang V6

Hey guys, I wanted to see if anyone has installed the JET performance chip in their 05-08 V6 Mustang. It says it does not need to be tuned, and I wanted to see what you thought. I have installed a dual cat-back exhaust system, along with the Roush cold air intake, and was curious was the JET chip would add.

JET brand performance chips have been around for a long time and have a great reputation for increasing performance in domestic vehicles. The one for the V6 S197 Mustang hasn't been out very long. Here's a link...

hmmm, not really a chip, but a plug on chip unit. what was the price of that. it makes the claims of a tuner, but it cant be programed like a tuner. one size fits all?

Correct, it does not require a tune. It's basically like Plug-n-play on a computer. The price is $299. They also have a replacement MAF sensor that claims to have impressive increases.

You'd be better served to get a tuner. Much more flexible!

i`m with stl on that. 300.00 is alot for no choices. for 100.00 more, you can get custom tunes for your car and be able to change them as you add stuff or use different fuels. but if you do go that route, be sure and post how it works.

As a rookie in the world of working on cars, how hard is it to use a tuner? I have found ap lace nearby that would tune my car if I buy the tuner, but they want 2 hours of work at $130 an hour. So with the price of the tuner, I am looking at nearly $600...

well depending on what you mean by tune. if you're talking about buying a custom tune over the internet, then its fairly easy. ALWAYS RETURN TO STOCK tune before you do anything with the tuner.(most times)but only after youve tuned of whatnot, you dont have to do this with a stock car or for the first time you tune. download the custom tune to your computer, upload it to you tuner through the usb cord, then upload stock tune off your car and download the new tune. if you have any computer know how at all, you can do it. as for a completely custom tune from a chop, better wait till you get some f/i or n2o, not worth all the hassle and money on a next to stock car. Tuner + Custom tune= 350$+ or - a few. Completely custom from a speed shop tune = 6-700$ including dyno time. start looking into tuners, its a first step and a must have when you mod our mustangs.
