Do you have an automatic or manual transmission?

It's never recommended that you install a remote start system on a car with a manual transmission and most shops will turn you away. The danger of a remote start system on a 5-speed is leaving the car in gear when you park. If you hit the remote start while it's in 1st gear the car will lunge forward which will damage your starter, flywheel, another car or a person.

i put on the clifford avantguard 5.1 w/ remote start on my manual trans. I would not recommend this to install to anyone other than a professional. It cost me $500 for everything and I spent about 3 days with the entire dash torn apart. Not 3 full days but close. I have accidentally started the car because my dad moved the car and left it in gear and barely any e brake on. Luckily i stopped it before it hit the large rocks in the front yard.

You get used to using your parking brake with out leaving it in gear unless on a steep hill. At any rate you don't always use the remote starter. It also has a turbo timer function sort of.

But i do not reccomend this system if you tend to be clumsy. And professional install only.

do you have prior experience installing alarms/remote starts? if not, then i wouldnt risk frying your bcm in case an improper connection is made. i do this for a living and have seen the horrors of failed attempts at alarms.

but if you do know what you are doing with this, then go for it!

there are a lot of alarms that can be used with manual transmissions. i know the viper responder le alarm system can be used with manuals as well.

its default setting is for manual transmissions. i found that out the other day when i installed one at work.
