Default I am new to everything Mustang and I have some Qs.

Hi, I am in the process of buying a Mustang for my first car. I have been saving for a car since I have been an early teen and the time has finally come to buy it. I am looking to buy a V6 Mustang with the Pony Package. I found a red one in PA that was an 06 model with only 17000 miles for 14000 (will definitely try to and most likely get it down some). I'm not crazy about the red (prefer gray) but what they hey, it's a great price with great mileage.

Now on to my Q...

How do I plug my Ipod Touch into the Shaker 500 system it comes with? I saw an AUX port but I read that only starting with the 07 models the Ipod can be connected into it. Does anyone know anything I can do to get it to work in the 06? I don't want to use a FM transmitter because they sound like crap and I would rather have it come from the system. Remember, I'm a newb to all of this so spare me words I probably won't know.

If this is a problem, which I hope it isn't, should I holdout for an 07? I mean, I really don't want this deciding if I get a certain car but it is important to me. Finding Mustangs at this time is not easy.

Thank you

noob to noob if it has a aux input for it there is no reason it shouldnt work and you can always do aftermarket head unit ie touch screen or what ever your fancy. But i talked my guy down from 14 to 13k for a 05 v6 so good luck and they are awesome lol

It should work. I have a 07 Pony pkg and i dont even have the Shaker system its just single CD player. You can find the AUX in the center console, although you have to buy the cable separate. What i did was i took my car manual to Radioshack and showed the guy the writing in my manual about how AUX works, then asked him if they have a cable to connect my ipod touch to this AUX thing. He gave me a cable and you connect one side to the aux and the other end to your ipod headphone, the sound and quality is awesome.

For a 2005 or 2006 you will need an interface adapter and a RCA input to mini plug cable. This will allow you to use your Aux switch on your Shaker 500 head unit ... here's a link

Precision Interface Electronics FRD04-AUX Adapter Add an auxiliary input to your 2004-up Ford factory stereo at Crutchfield.com

Thanks for all of the help.

Now to my understanding since I would be getting an 06 model, I am going to have to buy something to get my iPod to work. The link that was given right before this post goes to something that I think I would have to install and it is quite a lot of money. If I go to Radioshack, will I get something cheaper and something they can put in? Again I am a newb, sorry. Should I just go to Radioshack with my manual and ask them what to do?

Actually, after reading the reviews on Crutchfield, it makes me want to buy it. The only thing I am worriedd about is installation as I am not good with these wires and such.

So I install this behind the Shaker, out of sight? Then do I have to buy that cable that is "recommended" on the site so I can plug in the iPod (and hopefully a Sirius radio later on) through the AUX?

Thanks

Just to be clear, if there's an 1/8" (headphone) jack on the stereo, you should be able to go to Radio Shack and buy a $2.00 1/8" to 1/8" cable (although it will probably cost about $5.00! ;-) ) and you should be set.

I know the 2005's did not have one of these, but it did have a push button labeled "AUX", which as far as I know, didn't do anything useful.

That's what I have, and I use an FM transmitter for the iPod called the "Airplay" by a company called "XtremeMac" and it wasn't too awful. It's not as good as the old-fashioned tape adapter, but it's a lot better than they were 10 years ago or so. I'm not sure what all iPods they make them for, though.

Before you buy anything, just go to your car (the one you want to buy), Open up the center console door, the one behing the cup holder, inside it on the bottom kinda hard to see should be 2 plugs, one is the power adapter, same one as you have on your dashboard and theres another 1/8" headphone jack plug for the AUX, if you have that your all set no need to buy anything extra, except the cable, if theres nothing there, then Good Luck with your adventure

The center console plug only came out in 2007 ... the adapter that I posted will sit under your shaker *out of site* I ran my RCA cable under my center console and into the compartment. And yes I also installed a sirus radio with a "Y" adapter so that I can either play my IPOD or my Sirus. I use the power plug in the console to power the Sirus.
Anyway take it for what it's worth and maybe you are one of the lucky ones that will have that plug in the console which would really surprise me!

Cheers
Mike

I have an 05, and the rumors of the AUX button being useless is true. I bought a kit from Bestbuy for $99 that was supposed to work with an 05 mustang, but when i took apart the whole area around my radio and couldnt get it to work, I was told by their tech that even tho my radio has an AUX button it doesnt really work or do anything. So i looked around and found another radio that supposedly is able to not only have a direct connection, but be able to control my ipod through the actual unit and keep it charged. It is supposed to arrive tom. Ill post with some pics of the install and such if your interested.
